surely it's cheaper and easier to buy wax foundation rather than mess about trying to make it.

I find it better quality and cheaper to make all our own foundation, but obviously it wouldn't be if you were going to deliberately mess about trying to make it.

Not if you want foundation from your own, pesticide / chemical free wax.
Not watched it as cannot

I too thought it could have been speeded up a bit. It was interesting as a concept - I'm not sure I have enough wax to make it worth the effort of making the plates. :)

Only worth bothering with if OK if you plan on going virtually commercial with dozens of hives, otherwise too expensive and only if you have time to waste ffaffing around and think you will significantly gain somewhere (the kit to do it is not cheap). Certainly not for beginners - there are better things to get your head around.

it did seem a lot of faffing about to make, I would have tried using two sheets of plastic foundation as the mold press,

This goes on for too long in my opinion..it's good to see but surely it's cheaper and easier to buy wax foundation rather than mess about trying to make it.

Suppose you could say the same about honey :icon_204-2:

Nice piece of DIY! Any thoughts/experience on cast vs rolled foundation? I think it was a tuturial by fatbeeman states that you should roll wax sheets with a rolling pin to change the chrystal structure otherwise it is very brittle?
