Just been in to my local bakers to find out the price of fondant. Quoted £24 /12.5kg pack. This is well over the top as it is bought for under £10. It will be better for me to buy 2 packs and pay the delivery charge of £10, making it under £15.

Yes, currently around £9 and the delivery is free from Bako.

Bako's delivery charge is £9.99 for orders under £50. Fondant is £9.64 as far as I can remember,

The cost of sugar is low at the moment. £15 is top price you should be paying for block of fondant.

Can someone share where I can get some for round that price please?

As you've got 5 hives (and another season ahead of us :) ) - you might want to consider buying from Bako-online. Ok - you have to buy 6 boxes to get the free shipping - but as sugar is currently so cheap (<£10 a box), it's really something of an investment right now.
I bought 6 boxes just a couple of weeks ago, and already I'm considering buying more in order to keep a reasonable stock of it put by.

try another slightly less local baker?

but as stated you are probably best aiming for 3-5 boxes given that you have 5 hives. that's one block each OR half a block each and a half to spare.

If you keep it well wrapped in plastic that doesn't let the air through then it seems to keep for at least two years and I am sure longer. If the air gets in the surface dries out and then you have to dampen it to make it moist again. Or....if you have room in the freezer, wrap it in plastic and freeze it!
I get mine from a friendly local bakers. By that I mean one who bakes their own cakes. I give them a jar of honey for their trouble and I get it at the price they pay to bako. Saves me any postal costs.

What's the shelf life of fondant cheers

it'll keep indefinitely, as Enrico says, it might dry out a little. If kept in too damp an environment, it might get a little too gloopy - both can be rectified. I have a few blocks from three years ago - kept in an outhouse which is slightly damp - the cardboard may be a bit unsightly now, but the fondant's still fine

I've some fondant bought at £1 a kg 2 years ago in a damp bee shed and it's still like "new", i.e useable.

If needs be buy in bulk and freeze, it ain't going to get cheaper.

I called our local bako today and they quoted £15.19 for a 12.5kg box
I asked if that was their cheapest fondand and they said yes
Do different depots have different prices ?????

WHY are you buying this?
It is so easy and cheap to make? and has no other additives......

Sugar could get cheaper as I believe British Sugars stores are full. Also the price farmers are paid for their beet is to be reduced by I understand approx. £8/tonne for next year. Also at the moment the farmers get £24/tonne for beet produced above their quota and next year it will be only £5/tonne.
