How soon after becoming queenless is it best to combine with a queenright colony ?

Evening of the same day once flyers returned ?
Next morning ?
Wait until emergency Qc's are capped then knock down ?

How long is a piece of string. By the newspaper method anytime as long as one hive is Queenless, if swarming is happening uniting will not necessarily stop swarming with a new queen. Evening best for uniting

It is not queenless. It has queen cells. Often they are very fond of their own cells.

Either immediately you take the old queen out of the Q- side or when they are hopelessly Q- ie they haven't the means to make emergency QCs. The latter is safest.

Did one just this week immediately after dispatch, it's not like they will chomp straight through the newspaper.
Still amazes how quickly the tone changes when they go from Q+ to Q-. Not a sound I like to hear but needs must sometimes
