Brecon presentation: Electricity between bees and flowers
Brecon and Radnor Beekeepers are welcoming Dominic Clarke, researcher in bee perception and behaviour at the University of Bristol, who's coming to share his latest discoveries about the reasons bees choose flowers...

He says:
"Buzzing bees can sense electric charge:
You can't feel it, but you are surrounded by electric fields everywhere you go. Every time you move you generate electric charge by friction, and every time you step outside you are surrounded by the atmospheric electric field, originating in the upper atmosphere. Even flowers exhibit small electric fields as they compete for the attention of bees and other pollinators. They are too small for us to notice, but to bees, these electric fields provide crucial information that they can use to assess the quality of the flower and decide whether or not to visit it. It is becoming clear that electric fields play a greater role in the lives of bees than anyone had previously imagined."

Llanddew Village Hall, near Brecon, LD3 9ST on Thursday 14th November at 7pm. Please come if you're nearby.
