Or "slashed to death with a hive tool"

Or "trod on".

... sorry - not much beekeeping to do, mind wandering!

Are these Swienty Langstroths?

Not exactly. We have our own preference and use a German pattern floor known as the Kombi. Its an old fashioned pattern but we have manufactured interlocking travel screens to fit with them so we can do long distance migration with hives stacked up and still with good ventilation..

Then its Swienty brood boxes (everything one size on the hives) and Nakka roofs from Sweden. We use these roofs as they can double as an emergency floor or split board.

Attached is a pic of the box we use, and also of the floor and roof.

ps....looks like pics got chopped and will not go....must be too big.

If we had to wait for 20c in UK I think there would be a lot of unmated Queens!! It was 14c here yesterday.

Yes, that is why raising good mated queens in the UK can be problematic.

OP likely caused the problem in the first place by closing down the entrance excessively. Unnecessary interference?

If there is a virgin (or mated) queen down there, what difference does it make? Put her back inside and the bees will sort it out, if possible. Far better than any other interference.
