I have lots of earwigs under the crownboards. Any idea why they took one away fpr analysis?

its just to record what they find under the roof and floor,
could be anything its a general eastern England contingency plan against disease out break and small hive beetle, just an exercise

They "did" me yesterday. The scenario was an imaginary outbreak of SHB in the area, and they are checking every registered apiary within a 10k radius of the assigned "outbreak apiary".

Did you see the bit of kit they have to catch SHB with? Two pieces of tubing with a chamber between. How does that work then? You've got to suck on one end of tubing? How does that work then? Oh, you undo your veil and stick the end in your mouth, while leaning over the hive with the other end aiming at the SHB, and suck it into the chamber in the middle. Are you serious? :icon_204-2: Oh, you are. You can get big syringes with wide nozzles you know. That would suck up a SHB good.

We used to use the same in the environmental dept. for collecting specimen's for the labs, ours had a rubber bulb on the end, it was an exercise but they still checked for afb,efb and any abnormal hive problems

You really couldn't make these things up.
