Hi all im getting a empty national bee hive in few days do i simply fill these with frames and foundation then add bees , if so to attract a swarm to it do i just use the brood box at bottom and roof to catch them thanks ste

Hi I take it you’ve not taken any beekeeping courses?

I think before actually getting some bees, at least do some research - it would also be advisable to join an association and try and get on a beginner's course. You'll learn a bit on here, but be aware that some of it will be how not to do it :)

Is your beekeeping experience only via YouTube. I detect Americanisms in your previous posts. Also you already have a hive and removed OSR honey. Join an association, go on a course, read books, pay for a beekeeping experience and get a mentor.

A waste of resources where swarm catching is your aim.
You wrote elsewhere;
"Hi all its my first harvest ever from rape"
So there is your answer in setting a swarm trap, you own
the 'bait'.
Take any aged cardboard/wood/polystyrene box of around
30litres volume, taller than it is wider, and paint what will
be the roof in aged melted broodcomb. Gaffertape the box
to airseal right and make two 25mm penetrations, central
and each 50mm below roof and above floor, screen the upper.
Sit that trap on a structure anywhere in full morning sun above
1200mm from groundlevel and cover from weather, entrance
facing South.
Wait.

Bill
