I have one which I carried out a shook swarm into this spring. The colony was expanding steadily but last week I found a single queen cell in the centre of a frame (classic supercedure position) and no eggs to be seen. I don't think the supercedure is related to the hive material.
I like the hive generally with the exception of the crownboard with poly discs that fall about when you tip the board. For that reason I've replaced it with a clear crownboard. .
Otherwise it's light and strong. I took the precaution of vaselining the joint surfaces before putting it into service as advised in here.

The reason i typed what i did in my reply to my post is i was going to ask a stupid question about the ventilation options but i thought better.

Anyway i myself purchased two brood boxes this week and i must say i will not be buying any wooden boxes anymore, good quality and the delivery was the quickest i have had, one really pleased customer thanks to Beefriendly..;)

I have 2 and compared with my other poly hive they are streets ahead. Good valve, ready painted & strong. Will definitely be sticking with them in the future... :

Lyson that I got years ago was far better poly than others I have tried.

Just checked, they look to be a distributor for lyson
