Selling, we are doing it wrong.

Our family originate from Norway. One of the family now no longer with us spent years researching and traced back to the village where my ancestors departed from.

    Extractor

I can't comment on konigan, but a quick search will bring up plenty of content from the recent past about this make of equipment. It will probably be worth speaking with Ian @ Old Castle, I've no affiliation but would be my first choice. Lyson, we have a lot of their kit and the premium is...

It seems that I work to pay the staff !!!!!!!!.

    Do you fit mouse guards?

We put mouse guards on everything, it's one of the joys of being based in an arable area that is mostly no till. The mouse population has really expanded in the last few years and we now have a pest control company on contract.

    Honey weighing machines

But there are many of use that can testify to the quality/longevity of the Swienty machines. Ours has now passed the 100,000 jars mark with no breakdowns and couple of quid spent on spare parts.

    National Honey Show, who’s going?

I was hoping to attend this year as I've never managed, but we won't be back from holiday in time. Hopefully next year 🤞🤞. I hope all those who attend arrive safely and have a good time 👍

    Transporting an InstantVap

Steel thermos lunch box designed to hold a large flask in the half moon lid. Carries two batteries, the insta & a litre bucket of white powder. I manage a full day with two 5amp batteries as have a hard wired inverter on the landy to recharge them.

    Sending Honey to EU

I usually shy away from sending into Europe, used to send lots, but now & again we do get a random order. I always use the post office and have not had any issues. We sell lots to tourists for gifts etc and we have a little information leaflet we hand out printed with the information how to...

    New Beekeeping Vehicle Must Have

This lot are just the same anti business, look after ourselves typical Labour party, just the same as Blair & Brown. Soon it will be the NHS again, agenda for change still leaves a bitter taste in the mouth of the staff that were impacted.

    Varroa treatment

I'm still stripping boxes & putting strips in (Apistan this year). I felt a change was in order as have used an Amitraz based product for many years.

What to do with old brood frames full of honey

I rotate frames out of the main colonies from year three onwards. Any that still looks ok are used in bait box's. There's a big operator treading on our toes, but I generally catch at least twenty swarms a year just in bait box's stacked at the shed door which I assume are from his colonies...

    New Beekeeping Vehicle Must Have

We usually hire a dropside with tail lift for pollination runs, but I was very nearly caught out last year with access onto a site, Basically we were towed off & on by the farmer. The Iveco 4x4 looks good, but expensive and would need the five ton version to get a decent payload, especially...

    New Beekeeping Vehicle Must Have

In a previous life I spent a lot of time at Santa Pod & York raceway. A friend of mine ran a street rod which I helped with. Anyway, there was a three wheel Reliant fitted with a 2.4 turbo pinto plus nitro, all road legal. To put it midly, there was not much quicker at the time, but corners...

    New Beekeeping Vehicle Must Have

These guys completely rebuild the M57 to rectify the issues that engine has & due to the landy age can delete the cat etc. 110 is ex raf & solid, the cost also covers making it habital and air diffs etc. I'm not convinced in either direction yet. A new tri axle Ifor Williams with fitted...

    New Beekeeping Vehicle Must Have

We are looking at possibilities for another vehicle as hopefully we should have a full time beekeeper with us soon. The very shortlist is a hilux with dropside body, Or the equivalent Ford. My favoured option is, a local company modify land rover to accept the BMW M57 engine, this is my...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Can't be, otherwise the Queen would be marked "Yellow" .

    Next years forage

Make the most of it while you can, our farmers are saying its a three year cash cow that gives 3/4 the income of a field of wheat without the risk. I believe that the type of planting depends upon when the land is sown & which part of the scheme it is on. We have some wildlife mix that's...

How long would you drive to an out apiary

The furthest we travel, 5 hrs ish, but that's the exception. Furthest in Shropshire is 1.5 hrs, north Wales sites are just over the hour. I have just binned a couple of sites because they were not viable, cost V reward etc and gained a fantastic farm of 700 acre closer to home & we will have...
