    Wanted: Electric Honey Extractor/London area

Has anyone got an electric extractor for sale? I am getting too old to crank the handle on my manual one :nopity:

    Apiary Near Pylons?

I don't know but I have read that it is not good to keep bees around such areas. There are some that say it disorientates them, while others say that it just irritates them. Maybe these are myths, and if I were you I would just observe and see for yourself if there is a problem.

    Nuc wanted in SW London

Yes I can set up a decoy hive on the off chance. I did this last year and hoped to split my hive when they started thinking of swarming, but they started late and then the summer flow kicked in and they decided not to. Then I heard of two swarms in the area but couldn't get to pick either up as...

    Nuc wanted in SW London

Yes I was thinking of splitting when they start thinking of swarming, but wanted to go bigger and maybe get 3 to 4 hives on the go. Is it really that easy to do a multi-split with several bought queens and get honey off them in the year? I wanted to proceed carefully so I get a reasonable crop...

    Honey harvest times in London

Yes I'm just south of Richmond Park. I rescued a tiny cast from the rain a couple of summers ago in this park, carried it off in a plastic bag and hived it as I still had my old hives and some old combs. Then managed to get them through the winter with a small crop (40 pounds) last year and this...

    Honey harvest times in London

Thanks for the ideas, yes it comes down to practicalities in the end. Rather than harvest or store to one side, when (not if!) they decide to swarm and I use an artificial swarm management technique I could divide the honey stock and stick the empties on the swarm colony and leave the honey with...

    Honey harvest times in London

Hi all, I am not new to beekeeping having kept bees in London for 15 years before other priorities made me give it up for a while. But I'm back now :hurray: after hmm.. about 20 years, after building up a cast I found by chance over 2 winters. I used never to take the Spring crop (Horse...

What to do with an aggresive hive

Hi, you will have to requeen them. We are just into swarming season in the south as we hit the June gap, is it the same there for you too? If so you can take advantage and take a comb with a healthy looking queen cell, capped or near so, from one of your other hives and put it in the offending...
