This was two weeks ago. The syrup has nearly all gone. They have been flying but not much because of the...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

My First Swarm Swarm: 27 April 2012 (It's taken me a couple of days to find time to write this!) I had intended to do hive inspection that day – this was during a two week period of very wet and windy unsettled weather. The afternoon looked promising so about 2.30pm I visited the hive and saw...

    Commercial members usernames

Hivemaker is a long-standing member who gives good advice & comments. I've not seen him canvass for business so he isn't taking advantage of his occupation for financial advantage. Therefore I'd vote to leave him as he is.

Will my bees swarm if i over feed them fo winter?

Thank you Poly Hive - a most useful explanation of weighing. Do you use a spring balance & has it an adapted hook to raise the hive without upsetting the resident ladies?

Will my bees swarm if i over feed them fo winter?

MM I'm interested in your reference to the spring balance. Do you hook it under just one side of hive & read off as the hive starts to lift? Sounds like a good idea, but ... How do you know what percentage of the weight is wood & metal hive parts & wax etc?

    Microsope images of a mite

Phew! Apiguard having been on a week I did my first count today. I was surprised that all the "Varroa" mites didn't float in meths as I had read so often. Now I'm hoping that the vast quantity of mites were not, in fact, varroa.! Hopefully good news.

    Where to buy cedar?

If you look at http://www.cfanderson.co.uk/module/page-77/type_id-57 Andersons specifically mention timber for Beehives. Not sure how little they'd supply though. Somewhere on the site it lists the sizes available.
