Question for local assoc members only please

Yes, yearbook contains all member names and addresses for Glos BKA (but no phone numbers or email addresses, which would be much more useful).

Qx beneath AS - it works!

EricA. Yes, I know, it's a bit embarassing missing a queen cell on one frame, but they can be tricky little critters. I only did the AS two days ago - 22nd. Has anyone out there used a Qx beneath, had a swarm go out and come back, and then lost the swarm after the Qx was subsequently removed?

Qx beneath AS - it works!

This was my first experience of using a Qx beneath the queen/flyers/foundation part of the procedure. I either missed a QC on the frame of brood I put in to encourage them to stay (!) or else there was something amiss and they tried to abscond. Anyway only 25 minutes ago, they were streaming...

    Eggs on Varroa Tray

Just in case anyone has any new information on this subject since it was originally posted in February, I'd be pleased to hear it. I was taking a good look through my varroa tray debris yesterday and found eggs on one of the trays. I, too, thought that the egg police would have eaten them if...

If my bees are getting through their fondant...

....is it because their stores are already severely depleted, or will they just consume fondant when it's available even if though they have plenty of conventional stores left? Thank you.

    Treating nosema with garlic !?

This thread caught my interest so I googled a few words which lead me to the BBKA 2009 Honey Bee Health proposals for spending the £10m government funding from around that time. Search for 'garlic' and you'll find a proposal for Alternative Nosema Treatments. Does anyone know if this project...

    Stores equivalent of bakers' fondant

Blimey, what a load of knobs some of you are!!! Richard. I am keen not to over feed my bees when August is only just over. I have put fondant on as a slow feed during the Apiguard treatment, just to keep their spirits up. They are still flying, the queens are still laying, there is still...

    Stores equivalent of bakers' fondant

Hello Does anyone know how much bakers' fondant it takes to result in the equivalent of 1lb (or 1kg, I don't mind) of stores in the hive? I know the ratio for syrup, but want to track my use of fondant also. Many thanks

Brood bee parts on varroa trays - lots

Good point! So, ratio of 2 antennae to 6 legs per immature bee explains many more legs than antennae. Can I assume that the wasps have been in early to eat the head, thorax and abdomens?

Brood bee parts on varroa trays - lots

Mostly legs, but some antennae. I thought hygienic bees very briefly, but then asked myself - why would they only start this behaviour once I'd put the Apiguard in?

Brood bee parts on varroa trays - lots

Advice please. Honey off, quick feed given, apiguard 1 installed on 15th, crown holes covered, varroa boards in. I'm now monitoring mite drop. But there are hundreds of white legs on the varroa boards of some of the hives this morning. Is this a reaction to the apiguard or are wasps...
