    Advice please they swarmed again

Thanks again for the help and encouragement. Think I will wait and see what they do tomorrow. If they swarm again I will try to catch them but leave the hive where it is move it the following morning hopefully that will keep them in. Then I will open the old hive make sure there are still...

    Advice please they swarmed again

Thanks for the help so what would you do now? Check make sure there is only one cell preferably unsealed? They did swarm again this afternoon I managed to catch them but I have just moved the hive on to a stand and they have all decided to go back into the old hive :willy_nilly: Should I have...

    Advice please they swarmed again

My bees swarmed on the 13th of this month I caught them and it was the main swarm (old marked queen present) I removed all but 1 cell (or so I thought) and they threw a cast swarm on the 23rd and I lost them. Today they swarmed again. I did get them into a nuc but they all returned to the main...

Cast swarm returned to origional hive

Yes I opened them 4 days after first swarm as I originally left more than 1 QC it was 6 days ago but must have missed at least 1. When checking I didn't shake the frames maybe I should next time.

Cast swarm returned to origional hive

Well today they swarmed again around lunch time so I guess they just didn’t like the weather and went back in last night. They settled on a young plum tree right at the base. I tried many times to scoop them up and put them in the nuc but every time they all just went back to the tree (I...

Cast swarm returned to origional hive

My first hive swarmed 9 days ago. I got the main swarm as I identified my marked queen on inspection a few days later. On advice from here I removed all but one QC (or so I thought) Today the main hive swarmed again in the same bush on the ground. I had a nuc ready just in case they did a cast...

Thanks everyone for the help. I went back in today to remove all but one QC. Good job I did as I found 3 others on a frame I missed.

    Just caught swarm now what?

I checked on the new swarm hive (with old queen) and found almost 5 frames drawn out and some honey/pollen in them very impressed for 3 days work and found the original marked queen present. I added some 1-1 feed to help them out, next week’s weather is not looking good so will keep it topped...

    Just caught swarm now what?

Thanks for the help. Have just removed 4 sealed Queen cells think I have left 3 in there. They were very close together didn't want to risk damaging them. Still lots of bees left in the hive with the amount in the swarm I thought there would be less. Sorry no full swarm photo the wife doesn’t...

    Just caught swarm now what?

I was late doing an AS (was about to do it) and they have just swarmed. They settled on the ground on a bush so I managed to cut the branches and get them into a new hive :sifone: I have moved them approx 4 meters to the side of the original hive. I only had foundation so they have a lot of work...

    Supersedure or swarm cells?

Weather not looking good today :( forecast is ok for Friday afternoon so might have to wait until then to open the hive. If I can’t find the Queen on Friday (but eggs are present) as a last resort assuming the cells are sealed and no swarming has taken place can I remove them to give me more time?

    Supersedure or swarm cells?

Hmmm but should I still split them then? if they want a new Q I guess they will just make more cells later to replace her.

    Supersedure or swarm cells?

The hive was really bursting with bees brood and stores I was a few days late with the super.

    Supersedure or swarm cells?

Thanks RAB I had read before that moving hives with sealed cells was not a good idea. I forgot and was just trying to save some work if I could move one of them sooner. No big deal moving one or 2 together will just have to wait now. New site is up a rough track so no chance now. 2 of the cells...

    Supersedure or swarm cells?

Ok if I do an AS using the frame with the best looking cell can I move the hive with the cell and only worker bees straight to the new site?

    Supersedure or swarm cells?

They are very small and white looking so think they are new am sure they weren’t there 10 days ago.

    Supersedure or swarm cells?

I have just inspected my hive and found 3 cells mid frame unsealed with larvae in it and 2 empty ones mid frame. 10 days ago I changed my brood box and bottom board (to remove the spacers the French put in) and they have done a lot of work since then despite the changeable conditions. I found...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Checked out a new apiary site as the hive I have is a little close to the house and I wanted more colonies. It’s in a small fairly open woodland 250m from a main road up a steep rough track. With a little tree/bush cutting and moving some big rocks I should be able to access it with a 4x4 but...

    Dark patches of honey

It was on the 3 frames I removed in various places with a gap then the normal white coloured capping’s. Could be ivy from late last year but I last opened them on the 10th November (the ivy was flowering) and it wasn't there then. It could be muck on the capping’s but it’s odd its patchy even on...
