What did you do in the Apiary today?

Just wandered up to watch what they were doing and wow they are facinating, now i can work out which pollen they are going for watching their flight paths. I just really had a wonderful half hour just watching... there are some wonderful beekeeping days :)

    Pretty Poly

Sorry PH sent before I finished, yes I understand bee houses have issues but will try and if not the best idea they can move back out and I still have a container insulated that I can add power to and get more space for checking out incubator calibrations.

    Pretty Poly

Hi PH i have 47 containers so I am sure I can spare one I already have it to keep my bee equipment safe and sound so it is already wasted by your views. For me it is not a waste it just makes my life easier.

    Bee stings

Thanks Itma I will look into this. PH I understand what you are tying to say but it is still bonkers. Now you are worried about a few quid of others money, ok a couple of hundred pounds but how is that a serious argument? On your method i would have saved loads of money because I would not be...

    Pretty Poly

Thanks rooftops now I understand the reason for painting :) makes sence but i have a plan as i am currently insulating a 20' shipping container as well and i plan to house my hives inside this later in the season and hopefully this will stop any weathering. I just really wanted to know the...

    Bee stings

:iagree: yes handling is great and newbee more hands on the better but that is different to getting stung on purpose.

    Pretty Poly

Cheers PH just thought i would ask as I have one but wont paint it at least with your experience i knew you would have a good idea. So if it is not painted it will last as long as one that is unpainted. I will be the test case then.

    Bee stings

Hi TC, I take no offence or attempt to pass on either. I understand you can get stung but if we strip this right back i am saying in my view you dont have to get stung and telling a new bee to go and get stung is barbaric. New keepers should of course be informed very clearley of the risks but...

    Bee stings

Hi DD, I cant find the make of gloves on them sorry but i will add a link of where to get them when my wife gets back from hols as she got them for me. I also use the rubber gloves from many suppliers that stings do not get through but my main ones are ones we used to use in the bakery when we...

    Drought and Honey?

I still have steams and brooks running down my fields here as well as a huge pond I just need the nectar flowers rather than sheeps grass lol even in mid wales though the ground is soft but not the normal boggy at this time of year. Why can they not plant rape here and all those nice crops...

    Bee stings

Hi Tonybloke, I am afraid i do squash the occasional bee but i have severe reactions to bee stings, wasp stings, knat bites, horsefly bites etc. I personally have had to weigh up the risks to me and that to the bees. I have decided that protecting myself is my highest priority and for that I...

    Bee stings

Sorry TC but eh? you said yours were full of stings i did not say yours were new or old I did however say that it would be a good idea if you got a new pair on the basis you say stings are getting through yours. If that is the case i do think it is a good idea you get another new pair. I have...

    Bee stings

Hi TC, yes you are most welcome, are you able to send me £55 including postage i will send you a pair. Please dont forget to add your contact details for postage. If your gloves are that bad then i think a new pair would be a great idea. Anything else I can help with please let me know.

    Bee Stings II

Hi there, I personally dont let anyone near my hives unless they are fully covered but I now have 4 full suits for visitors or staff incase of any issues. The choice is fully yours and the neighbours but it would be a huge risk also if not fully protected and your first bees it may also be...

    Bee stings

Moggs - Dont think I got nasty just replied in same vane as eariler reply to me. I think asking people to sting themselves is stupid. If anyone is offended I can not apologise as it is plain daft and infact very unsafe a procedure.
