    New queen

The original hive had laying workers which as I understand it gives the colony the feeling they are "queen right" and would not accept the introduction of a new queen. Thus the reason for the 2nd hive with just the foraging bees only.

    New queen

So to be clear,I had one queenless colony which had some worker brood. I moved this hive 3 ft and in its place put a new, empty hive. Foraging bees returned to the new hive. I obtained a new, mated queen and introduced her ,in a cage,to the new hive. Checked a few days later and saw her moving...

    New queen

So I recently had a queenless hive that started laying drone brood. I moved the hive 3ft and put a new hive in its place with a new queen. I left all alone for 10 days and when I inspected I saw plenty of bees, the new queen and some eggs, grubs and sealed brood. All well so I left for two weeks...

    Drone laying queen

I'm trying to work out if I have a drone laying queen or laying worker. I understand that a drone laying queen will only lay one egg in a cell, but a laying worker multiple eggs. I haven't seen eggs ,but I have seen only one grub in each cell. Does that confirm it's a drone laying queen? Thanks...

    Introducing a New Queen

So even though it's worker brood I should still move it into the nuc?

    Introducing a New Queen

Definitely worker brood and definitely no queen.

    Introducing a New Queen

I currently only have one hive so no new brood other than the worker brood. Would the safest method be to use a nuc box ,put in frames with built comb and stores. Possibly also the one frame with worker brood? Then add the queen in her cage and shake in some bees. Let them settle and over the...

    Introducing a New Queen

Thanks for everyone's replies. So even though this is drone brood a new queen will be happier if I put her cage near the brood? Also not sure what a push in cage is? and could I adapt a regular queen cage?

    Introducing a New Queen

I have a queenless colony ,but fortunately a friend is supplying a mated queen. I'll introduce her in a queen cage with fondant sealing the ends. My question is their is some worker brood in the hive which I assume may convince the bees that they have a queen. Should I remove this brood before...

    Hiving a swarm

Had to go away for a couple of weeks, returning last night. This morning one of my colonies swarmed. Managed to capture them and put in a spare hive. Within the hour they swarmed again. Managed to capture them again and put into the spare hive. This time I put a frame of brood in the hive and...

    Bees struggling to find entrance

Collected a nucleus yesterday and now all settled in main hive. Quite cool here today, few bees out and about ,but they seem to be struggling to find the entrance to return to the hive. One or two at the back of the hive acting as if they are trying to find the entrance. Have hive numerous...

    Bee stings

Never heard of a "bite away " tool. Does anyone else use this and how effective is it. Once got stung twice on the face, unfortunately 5 hours before I was due to be attending a wedding. Elephant man face with one eye almost completely closed.
