    God rest the queen ...

Heard a story some time back of a beekeeper who read the news that the last king had died - out loud to her bees. Wish I could find that story now.

    First sting

My first sting was on a thumb - red hot pocker for 2 min then throbbing for days. Covered up for ages after that. Then started to get a few stings as I relaxed a bit till I started noticing it was little more than an irritation.

    Linseed Oil for treating Hives?

The only downside is, it does not look as nice as you first think it will look. After a few onths it goes a bit great. Really does the job though if you put it on when it is hot. Try in winter and it will take forever to dry

    Security.

I use a tripwire with a blank 12 bore cartridge. Scares the brown stuff from any would be thief and you can't get near the bees once it has gone off!! Sometimes I use them on the approach to the apiary if there are only a few ways in, or on a gate or even attached to a hive. Beware - if YOU set...

    Timber for hives

Maybe worth research wax dipping. But if you go that route, be VERY aware of the safety considerations while you are doing it.

    Apiary died over winter

shhhhhh Don't let on that bees can survive on their own in trees without treatment, then survive in your hive without treatment. If people realize the truth in that, there won't be any money for breeders and other snake oil sellers............ Repeat after me - bees need humans and lots of money

    Behaviour Change

I went up to one of the hives 3 days ago to take pictures of them flying - they were not the only ones flying - I was - they didn't like a big black camera or me anywhere near them. I don't mind a defensive hive though. The placid ones seem to ignor wasps later in the year.
