What did you do in the 'workshop' today

It would have to be tested, but maybe the ribs inside the pipe cause a swirl effect that keeps dust (and bees) away from the edges of the pipe and they just 'waft' down the middle never touching the sides as you don't often see ribbed pipes clogged with dust when the vac is used for it's...

I'd recommend you add a large shovel and a bag of quick lime to your inventory, just in case, you understand :)

    7 Beehives Stolen Llandudno

The problem with marking equipment is new hives are so easy to come by that any thief worth their salt will swap out the equipment as a matter of course to all new woodwork, even new frames if necessary. Then there's nothing to identify your bees from the lots of other hives available this time...

What does “I won’t be wearing a red carnation in my buttonhole!” mean?

Also there was "meet me under the clock at Waterloo station" (other venues around the county are available).

Going rate of Nucs and colonies this spring

The webmaster provides a 'service' by asking that people buy through him. This means that if you say advertise 10 full hives with him you don't have to give a location where you (and maybe ) the hives can be found. This reduced the likely hood of theft of unattended hives. If you click on the...

Going rate of Nucs and colonies this spring

A good guide is usually the price they go for in bee auctions but if you can't wait that long the Honey Bees for Sale website / mailing list is a good guide; http://www.honeybeesforsale.co.uk/

    Using reclaimed wood

Be careful of the 'blue' pallets. the company that owns them tends to get a bit annoyed if you don't return them. https://www.chep.com/uk/en/products/pallets/wooden-uk-pallet This bit of the page being the relevant part: "Important: CHEP pallets and containers always remain the property of...

Digital microscopes / one with LCD screen

This website has lots of information about attaching cameras to microscopes; https://www.lmscope.com/en/LM_digital_adapter_description_en.html I'm not sure how 'low end' they are though.

    New Beekeeper in 2024!

The only reason a bee wouldn't fly over water is what's the point? Unless they know there's decent forage on the other side why waste the effort flying over just to see? I suppose scout bees might do so?

    WHO

I think the house has a smart meter but the monitoring box that sits in the kitchen doesn't work , can't get a signal from the meter, so whether the meter works properly or not who knows. No one seems to be able to make it work so will just have to wait for the bill. As for other devices the...

    Still wasp problems in December?!

If you're interested the first part of this page has photos of a hibernating queen. https://www.wasp-removal.com/wasp-lifecycle.php As it notes in the text, she folds her wings down under her body and protects them with her legs.

    Honey on 'country'file

That would be nice, but I got a resounding 'No' when I asked RWAS whether we could put small reproductions of their certificates on our labels a few years ago.

Selling candles to shop for resale

Would they be interested in gift packs of say a candle a small jar of honey and one of those wooden honey dipper things, all in a fancy box. Of course it would have to sell at a premium. A friend used to sell a similar item in a small wicker tray and fake straw to rest it all in.

How to get candle to come out of hard moulds smooth and shiny?

Sometimes called mould release. Loads of people on Ebay sell it. It can also be used on the rubber seal of car doors to stop them icing shut after a hard frost.

    Butt joint

You could go a bit more fancy and use a mitre joint, then there's no exposed end grain to seal.
