    Caught swarm today

Hi everyone, just a couple of questions relating. Bait hive not 20 foot from my five hives. Very busy with scouts over the past week or so. Weather was too bad here in Ireland to inspect last couple of weeks so just kept an eye on all. Today a swarm left from one and flew straight to the bait...

    Mouseguards

What's the best time of day to attach. I tried to attach this eve,but had to abort. As soon as I tried, the bees started spilling out of entrance ready for attack. Out of five hives, I only got one done. Was just getting dark at the time. What's the best time of day to do this? No mouse would...

    Korean bee tree

I have two of these trees. Last year they flowered great & the bees were all over them. This year neither of them have flowered or even got flower buds. They are both well leaved & healthy looking. Has anyone else experienced this with this tree?

    Apiguard

After harvested the honey from my supers the end of August, I put the shallow boxes under each brood box, not only for the bees to clean out,but left a couple of full frames of honey in each, along with the extracted frames. Wanted to give some back as we got enough. Then I put on first trays of...

    Culling old queen

I have an old queen that I'm going to cull. I then want to unite the q- bees with a newly queened colony. How long after culling, can I unite with q right colony ? New queen is only laying a few weeks now so not a big colony. Uniting would strengthen for winter. Older queen has bigger colony so...

    Can't get a queen

One of my colony's swarmed Thursday gone. Was home when it started, so watched and retrieved the swarm, now in a poly nuc. Left all but one cell in the hive, with eggs brood and food. This colony are docile, well behaved but yesterday and today, they are very different bees. Can't even go into...

    A/S without finding the queen?

Hi everyone, Looking for some advice on a colony, currently brood and half, with half on bottom. Un-clipped, unmarked Queen and very elusive. Last inspection Thursday May 15th showed very full brood box with play cups here and there. Upon advice from Finman then, i ordered some new equipment in...

    Unclipped Queen,

I have a very prolific colony on brood and a half. Brood box bursting from seams, plus two supers with no rape seed near me. This Queen was born last Aug but to date I have never laid eyes on her. Wanted to find her to mark her and tried finding her from first inspections of the year but no...

    Bait hive distance?

Hi can anyone tell me how far from hives I can place a bait hive? And if can place them close enough, would this encourage the bees to want to swarm, in finding a new house ready. Has anyone placed a bait hive in their garden where their colony's are & how successful was it? Have one made, but...

    Numbering frames

Does anyone do this & what do you use to mark them that isn't toxic to the bees? I saw it somewhere suggested that if removing frames for any reason, it's useful when they are numbered so you know exactly where each frame was. Sharon

    Spring wasp traps

I'm getting traps ready to try and trap queen wasps before they get building nests. Last summer was particular bad around here & bees had an awful time trying to keep them at bay. Have any of you tried spring traps? What did you use as bait? Early in the year I believe they are on protein diet...
