    Happy Days.....NOT :(

Hi Tom, I was suspecting that might be the case, they are still attacking this evening...two or three right in your face all the time. Was planning to Demaree tomorrow when new equipment arrives but may just go in and knock any QC's down as I have an opportunity to get them on an out apiary on...

need to find new home for bees

Well, may have somewhere for two of them within the next two weeks...... if all goes well. Was dropping off a 'borrowed' hive to someone in the association I used to be a member of and got chatting....they have a newish apiary with some space and I have just been to see it :) Rejoining the...

need to find new home for bees

ITMA, Totally agree with you, however, I ended up with them in my garden due to an issue in an out apiary they were originally on a couple of years ago......it had a Sports centre next to it with an outdoor pool.....the bees liked to visit for water and people were standing on them resulting in...

need to find new home for bees

Well, having the bees in the garden is starting to be a bad idea this year....with earlier build up and bigger colonies and bees being that little bit more aggressive :( Now need, as a matter of urgency, to find an out apiary around Sutton (Surrey) area or will have to sell them as will be too...

    Happy Days.....NOT :(

After yesterdays work on the hives and one hive being aggressive and following, stinging for hours afterwards.......went out in the garden today and they are just as bad. Had several angry ones in my face and bouncing off my body then one stung me on back of neck...and it's only 10 in the...

    Happy Days.....NOT :(

Couple of hours later and Bees from hive still to be demeree'd are now being nasty little b's....flying round the garden, in your face, trying to sting and really having a go. Hopefully they settle down soon. Need to find somewhere to keep them other than the garden...might not be such a...

What is an abnormal reaction to a sting?

I think it varies and depends on the individual. over the years I have been stung on the ear, nose, lip, cheek, back of head and eyebrow with little reaction in comparison to other areas, hands feet, legs, stomach and back and, I suspect, the amount of venom received. Around eye swelled up and...

Demaree done on one hive and queen also clipped (hope I took enough off the wing). Checked on other hive and still couldn't find the queen :( ...will hopefully be able to do Demaree on this one tomorrow if new equipment arrives. Added another super for the time being.

    Happy Days.....NOT :(

cheers Enrico, had started early afternoon but weather was miserable and bees weren't flying...it was a case of needing to check them as hadn't been able to for a week. Day dragged on due to them all being home. Have kit to do a Demaree on one, also have one 14 x 12 nuc, one jumbo lang nuc...

    Happy Days.....NOT :(

haha yes, ANOTHER lesson learnt, or not as the case may be, these ones strangely attacked my feet last season too, so should have put wellies on. One sting on ankle and my leg would swell up all the way to my knee...nowadays they swell up mostly at the ankle and foot...tomorrow morning will be...

    Happy Days.....NOT :(

Weather not great in London today but needed to check hives as hadn't been in for a week. Ended up a painful day...had worn trainers, tucked bee-suit into socks and started.......well, 3rd colony checked decided it would attack my......ankles...took about a dozen plus hits on each, then the...

    bees bearding at hive entrance

as the title says.....one of my hives (poly) has had the bees bearding at the entrance for the last few nights..and still there in morning. 14 x 12 and not too full. Decided to add a super and pull two frames of stores out replacing with empty drawn frames this morning, have 9 of 11 with BIAS...

    What to do now.

I would let her continue to lay up where she is for a bit longer to build up a few more bees then, when enough to help cover another frame and with warmer weather, add a frame with emerging brood. Then as it develops add another and so on. It will then be better placed to take off...so to speak

my bees 8th Dec in London

Hi Beano, trying Beano, trying, if that doesn't work I might have tell her I need to bring in the other three hives lol. To feed, I take them outside and use a little water bottle drinker, free standing and holds about a quarter of a pint.....they quickly empty it.
