    acetic acid

Not quite accurate vinegar is acetic acid diluted to about 10%. The acetic acid used to disinfect frames is diluted to 80%. believe me there is a difference. If you don't beleive me try dipping your fingers into each solution . You skin will be corroded with the stronger mixture Ruary

    Storing pollen for later...

If you don't have time to make up slides as Eric suggested, I have kept pollen in a suitable condition for over a year by placing the pollen onto a smear of glyverine jelly. (The smear needs to be very thin and so make a smear on one slide and then dab that smear with a finger-tip and smear onto...

Yes Manley frames are the one for supers, and Bs means that they will fit National or Smith hives. You need to trim the lugs for them to fit Smith. You fit 10 into each Super.

    Candy

QUOTE=oliver90owner;205243]Pleeese, newbies, don't read Ruary's post out of context. He is meaning at this time of the year. The bees will take it down and store it in the autumn when fed as feed ready for winter, just as they would sugar syrup. So the answer to the OP must be 'Yes, it...

    Candy

Fondant or candy is not taken into the brood nest but consumed in the smae manner as honey. Feeding it does not clog the brood frood frames. But you can over feed with syrup and clog the brood nest depriving the queen of space to lay.

Is it possible to get away with two microscopes?

I am sure that when Redmond demonstarted II at Gormanston, and at the Galtee bee breeders the microscope that he used was not a long arm stereo. I have just looked at Swienty web apge and their microscope (well above your budget) is not long arm either. As regard trinoc, do you want to tkae...

Is it possible to get away with two microscopes?

No, if you want to perform anatomical studiesof bees /acarine detection. Then you need a stereo dissection microscope. If you want to do further diseases (Nosema, AFB EFB) then you need a copmpound microscope capable of x1000. That makes two microscopes, then the question was if the stereo...

Is it possible to get away with two microscopes?

I have never used a long arm stereo, but I don't think there should be any problem in using it for bee dissection. All a long arm stereo does is move the object further away from the stand which allows for the placing of equipment 9for example II stand lights micromanipulators etc) without...

    Pollen identification?

Yes, exposure to light would do it as well as other agents. By the way I have seen cards which give widely differing colours for each plant. Kirks book gives a range of three as does Dorothy Hodges one. The cards if I remember give one. Ruary

    Pollen identification?

IBRA have the cards at £4-00, however if the amazon one is old stock the colours might have faded. The cards will only give an indication of what the bees might have been foraging on. Kirk's book gives more detailed instructions on how to compare colours including the need to avoid colour cats...
