    What am I doing wrong?

Or give the foundation a blast of a blowtorch until it just starts melting. That usually makes it more palatable.

    Another council blunder.

Wow. That's insane. Surely your local private companies would be cheaper.

    Another council blunder.

Who charges £150 to destroy a wasp nest?

    Insurance

Any more on this, Icanhopit? What did you discover in your investigations?

    looking to get a hive

Hmmm...no, I don't, but will mention it to the division, as someone must do.

    Mask type oa

I got one for vapour so I can use it with spray paint or other chemicals as well as dust filters for sanding.

Why did you buy anything without knowing what it was?

    Wax moth honey bugger!!

Wax moth are present in hives –-it's a fact –-and often we will be unaware of their presence. If they have destroyed the comb, then there's little to Be done bit take out what you can and give it to the bees if you wish or bin it. Otherwise, there is likely to be wax moth in some of all our...

    looking to get a hive

That would be an excellent thing. I'd love to see something similar for our own division. Where would I find someone like that to see if they could do a talk near us?

And even if you are so built, BE CAREFUL and lift properly. Many beekeepers tend to twist at times – mea culpa –-and this is what can pop discs.

What did you do in the Apiary today?

On Friday I got a call for a swarm in a local garden. Sceptical, I asked about its size and access to it and it was a classic rose bush swarm that was about 12" by 12", so too big to leave to the elements and I could have had it boxed in no time. As I couldn't leave for half an hour, closer...

    looking to get a hive

Before you do, have you had any experience or training? If not, don't buy anything until you do. There are a number of good reasons for doing that. It's expensive, so don't shell out any money before you know: a) you're not frightened by the nasty buzzing things; b) you find it fascinating...

    Uncapped honey in supers

:yeahthat: Check the water content. I've just processed the last of my 2016 honey and feared it may have absorbed some moisture as I lost a bucket earlier this year that fermented. Anyway, the honey in a bag in a bucket was 18.5% and the other just in an Old bucket was 18%. Both lovely.

Learner Drivers to be alowed on the Motorways?

Middle. Far less mess than if they split head to toe and they don't immediately fall off their bikes, JBM. Better still is if they go into single file and then recouple. After all, they're entitled to filter traffic, why not reverse that logic to allow faster traffic to pass them more easily?

Learner Drivers to be alowed on the Motorways?

Well, actually, Beefriendly, The Highway Code makes it quite plain: Rule 112 The horn. Use only while your vehicle is moving and you need to warn other road users of your presence. Never sound your horn aggressively. You MUST NOT use your horn – while stationary on the road –-when driving in...

    Small garden advice please.

A large garden is far better than a small one, but when things go wrong, you need to be able to act swiftly. It wold therefore be preferable to have another apiary – perhaps that could be a division apiary in a pinch –-where you could move bees to if they turned nasty.

    Beekeeping "Kit" Storage

Not if you use the good stuff, John. That Weathershield (?) that soaks into the grain is very effective and worth the extra money. I have a shed and a fence outside that haven't been treated for more than 10 years outside that while needing a going over are OK, whereas I've used cheaper stuff on...

    Honey flavour

I don't think it has any effect upon the colour of the honey. I have pulled light straw colour honey out of frames that had brood in as well as dark red chestnut laden honey. The thing to watch out for is the higher chance of having wax moth in those supers.

    Hive tools

I think I have only lost one. And it was a flourescent yellow one, too.

Tansy as a weapon against wax moth

Thanks for that. And you just spray it on? Any dilution?
