    Swarm varroa treatment

"However, it may well 'unsettle' the swarm at a time when you are hoping they will put down roots rather than abscond." just do it once they have brood to care for but unsealed.

    Honey Labelling - Origin

"There is plenty of science regarding the health benefits of Manuka honey, particularly on wounds. Feel free to research about it and discuss with me." likewise any honey. the thing with manuka is that it was a second class unmarketable crop. some bright person comes up with a scientific...

    super emptyin

ask yourself - why do bees store honey? answer - as an energy bank for use when forage unavailable. your bees needed the food.

    Mated queen, but no eggs

by definition a prime swarm should be led by a queen who is laying well and should get on with the job fairly promptly after rehoming. this is obviously a cast. hopefully you don't have a QE left under the brood box. BTW how big was the swarm?

    Feed the swarm? Or not?

"Always feed a swarm on the 2nd or 3rd day" if it is a swarm of known "clean" origin i.e. your own bees then you are free to feed from outset!

    Swarming instinct, queen substance etc

it is well recognised for bees to build supercedure cells after newly mated queen starts laying - HM doesn't necessarily get all pheromoned up for some weeks.

What to do with a full super

rape - no. anything else - yes. in hive storage is how nature (and the bees) intended after all!!!

    Is it a silly question

    Drawing comb

"Throughput the whole summer they only drew barely 3 frames in the brood box and 5/6 frames in the super (i use national brood and a half)" as per the above - the super obviously not needed AND hampering the colony development. sounds like a nuc size not a full colony.

    Oxalic acid and new Queen

some mated queens can take a good few weeks to get fully pheromoned up and the bees think they need to supersede.

    BBKA Magazine etc

aside from the cost is not getting them a bad thing?

    Open Mesh Floor or Solid

"It is a new colony so they have yet to draw down the new frames with foundation so it is still a big space to heat." the standard solution to this problem is just to add 1-2 frames of foundation at a time, as needed, dummying down the rest of the brood box - maybe with insulation in the space...

    hive material

    cedar or poly.

    Honeybees under headstone

if it's more of a tomb than backfilled grave there could well be quite a void below the surface.

    Supers and frames cost

"Is it always like this this time of year ?" most of us wouldn't know since we all buy the seconds in the sales.
