Hi sneaky zee why don't you try to find a local beekeeping association, they often help with mentors and you could get hands on experience either at the BKA apiary or perhaps a local beek (next year )
:welcome::welcome::welcome: Hi Arwenevenstar, welcome to the forum. there is a couple of members of the stratford on avon BKA in and around banbury and even some as far as brackley!!!! also the shipston beeks may not be too far from you, check out there web sites.

Tilia platyphyllos'
" europaea,
" maximowicziana,
" euchlora,
" tomentosa,
" orbicularis,
" petiolaris.
a couple have a stupefying effect on bee's but are still supposed to be worthwhile. for the critics i have no experience of how good they are.
surely if there is a block of fondant on QE or direct on brood frames, and the bee's move up into the super beeing used as an eke then they would be isolated from there food and starve. so the queen being left behind woudn't make any difference ??
origanally it was a mickey take of a beekeeping article on countryfile with skep hives protected by a mix incorporating cow muck......... although i do actually have a few tonnes of muck available...
