    Novel design - "Thrivehive"

Some pics of my home-made top bar. Still early days for me to start boasting about it. I think it's good to be able to customize something to suit your own climate & conditions.

Hive inspection recording - template wanted

I'm thinking of printing 'Hive Record Charts' for the members of our association... so for each inspection of the hive you complete a check-list. Any suggestions of what to include - or perhaps someone has a template?

    Rubbish wax - worth reclaiming?

I have some brood frames full of dead larvae (chilled during a bad artificial swarm). My friend Joe suggested I leave them out for the birds to eat the grubs so I can reuse the wax. I thought it was a good idea so they're on my bird table.

"if the wind picked up as that roof could slam down with some force." I agree - my own TBH (made by my partner) has a hinged roof which I need to prop up when inspecting. Some very useful points in this discussion have made me think about modifying the hive... adding ventilation above the...

    Queen Fainting during marking?

Oh my God! I'm hoping to see a friend marking his queens this week - this sounds so dramatic... beekeeping is such an adrenaline rush at times.

    Irish TopBar Beekeepers wanted.

Thank you Scuttlefish, I've heard really good things about the Tipperary Beekeepers and the Irish Black Bee - I see Micheál MacGiolla Coda is giving a lecture on the Black Bee at Gormanstown. I can't see anything in the programme about TB beekeeping... Our association is planning on having a...

I am in the Mourne Mountains and am trying to get a few beekeepers to share ideas... our local association Rostrevor & Warrenpoint Beekeepers' Association are quite open and inclusive to new ideas. It is useful to work...

    Green Pollen?

Hi I'm new to beekeeping and noticed a few greenish looking cells in the outer frames of my brood box today. Not brood or eggs. They seem to be pollen/nectar cells. I wonder if this is mould? Any suggestions? Kind regards

    Siting Bait Hive

Hi I have placed my hive (with lemongrass oil and a few drawn out brood frames) in my garden, but no interest. I am a first time beekeeper. I have not seen any bees in my garden. The field next door has an old apple tree with some bees feeding there. I can place the hive A. directly...
