Clearing supers, bees roaring, what should I do

Beequick works for me usually, and after 10 mins of having the supers in the car I open up and let the stragglers that are shimmying up the tailgate go back to their home ;)

    Queen and laying workers?

I was told recently that DLQ's normally lay eggs on the side of the cell rather than the bottom, so maybe seeing them in the bottom of the cells is a good sign.

    Queen introduction, into a nuc

I had one last year that was in the cage for a week as the candy set like concrete. As for the bees becoming disinterested that certainly wasn't the case with mine as they were all over the cage trying to release her. I opened the bottom of the cage just enough to let her out and put it back...

    Suits you

Not had a made to measure from them but very happy with their BB1 which I have had now for the second season. Washes up great and no issues with zips jamming, and the Fencing style veil is really good quality, even resisted me trying to rip it on brambles!

Best way to introduce mated queen?

Google "queen introduction cage" and search on images. You will find plenty of plastic cages that are pressed in over sealed brood. Several of the big beekeeping suppliers sell them.

How do your bees behave in hot weather?

Had the same panic a couple of weeks ago. Got to the apiary, noticed fresh tractor tracks in the barley, immediately think "spraying". Get to the lives and the Pa*£ns landing boards on the poly hives are completely covered by inanimate bees. Came back after sundown and they were waking up...

Best way to introduce mated queen?

I did this last year for the first time. Hardest bit was getting the attendants out and keeping the queen in the cage. I opened the cage in the shed so that they would go towards the closed window and I had a chance to catch her up again if she escaped. Sure enough she got out before I could...

    Hive rotation

If you happen to have an OMF it makes no difference which way round they are.

No smoke s the way forward!

I have used rotten wood now for two year sand it is without doubt the best fuel I have tried. As long as it crumbles easily in your hand it will burn superbly and is easy lit. Worst in my opinion was cardboard plus a lot of cardboard contains chemicals.

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Had a call from a friend "I think there is a swarm of bees in my roof" Called half an hour later, he was in town and his wife took me outside the house to look. A few dozen dark coloured "Bumble" type bees. As I'm looking she finds one on the ground rolling around with a strong resemblance to...

If you post photos - BE AWARE !

One way to check on a Mac is open the picture in iPhoto then if there is Geo information embedded it should show in the Info Side panel in Places box. That's just one of the privacy issues with phones. Many people don't bother to read the privacy statement when they download an App for their...
