    frame runners

I use 3mm metal skim stop beads, you can buy a 2.5m length for a couple of pound in any builders merchants. They come with holes already in them, just cut to length with a pair of tin snips.

    Winter treatment

Hi quick question about winter treatment, due to bad weather today is the first chance I've got to vap my few hives and was wondering if one dose of oa was enough at this time of year or would I be better of doing 3 at 5 day apart. Thanks in advance for any advice.

    Play cups

I forgot to mention it looked like a few of the cups contained a small amount of royal jelly, not a great amount but some all the same. I did intend to take a nuc from this hive at some point this year so maybe now is a good a time as any?

    Play cups

Any advice welcome, I inspected the bees yesterday and found 5/6 play cups with eggs in 4 of them, I'm thinking this is maybe them starting to prep to swarm but I also read that eggs in play cups is not uncommon? I closed them up to have a think of the next step im going to take and I'm planning...

How far should bait boxes be from a hive

I've read that you should move them to the new location in the evening after all the flyers have returned and place some foliage lightly in front of the entrance. I'm sure someone with more experience will be able to point you in the right direction.

    Beekeeper since 1982.

It seems very much that if someone posts something that's not agreed with them seem to get ridiculed, at the very worst a bit of salt will do no harm and if it does work to some extent great. There are a lot of good homeopathic out there that I use daily will cattle and while the might struggle...

How far should bait boxes be from a hive

Space isn't really an issue where my hive is, as I've only one hive I'd like to try and catch a swarm to add another hive. I've made 3 national broad boxes to use as traps, would mid April be about the right time to put the bait boxes out?

How far should bait boxes be from a hive

This is probably a stupid question but how far away should bait boxes be from a hive and also what kind of distance should they be spaced out? As I'm new to bee keeping I don't have any old comb to put in the boxes so what would be the best alternative? Thanks

Thanks for the advice, I did think it might have been left over from last year but as I'm new to this I thought it maybe best to ask the advice of those wiser than myself.

First time bee keeper from co.Down

Hi I'm completely new to this, just got a 6 frame nuc last week and noticed what I think looked like a swarm cell(looked like a peanut) on the bottom of one of the frames. (I was only able to glance at it through the opening of hive) Im guessing its far to early for it to be a swarm cell, its...
