    Late summer swarming?

Thanks for the quick response. I was just thinking. Would it help to move an emptier outer frame in between 2 brood frames?

    Late summer swarming?

Hello. It's been boiling hot here in Italy for the last couple of weeks. Temperatures around 32 every day. Please see video attached... I inspected this hive last Sunday and the Queen still had plenty of room. Only 4 frames of the 10 had some brood and not all frames full of stores. Are they...

    Apivar lead time ...

I think everyone is a bit confused now that you've said it's a winner thing only. 😂. being a liquid treatment that it would be too cold for the bees in the winter.

    Apivar lead time ...

Sorry didn't mean to cause confusion. What I meant was that I would have preferred to treat with oxalic acid dribble but this only works if there is no capped brood and I couldn't afford to force the Queen to stop laying because I need to build the colony back up after it lost its queen some...

    Apivar lead time ...

Thanks for the quick reply. Yes I would have preferred to use oxalic acid but as I say needed to keep the Queen going. I'm pretty sure I placed the strips properly as per the instructions. Thanks again

    Apivar lead time ...

Hi everyone. Hope you're having a good weekend... I'm using Apivar strips for the first time (can't afford to block the laying Queen) as I try and build up a weak family with a new queen they made for themselves. All is good in terms of brood quality and quantity as well as stores. The strips...

    Signs of Nectar flow

Great thanks. I'm trying to build my colony back up after replacing the Queen and they child use all the protein they can get 😊

    Signs of Nectar flow

So are you saying that there can be pollen being collected with no nectar?

    Signs of Nectar flow

Hi everyone. Another silly question (bear with...). Is there always nectar when the bees are bringing back pollen or can there be one without the other necessarily? Thanks!

    New queen new QCs

Hi everyone. So my newly mated queen has been laying for about a week now. Nice brood pattern and very lively. I've noticed however a couple of QC on the edge of one of the frames. Given that the Queen seems to be fine and that we are well into July, should I destroy the Queen cells or not? Thanks

    How to add more frames...

Hello everyone. I have a newly mated queen that is doing quite well. Quite active and laying well with a nice brood pattern. The colony was left queenless for quite some time so population is quite small so I had reduced the number of frames in the brood box. Hopefully the population will start...

    Normal behaviour?

Hi everyone. As a newbie is great to touch base with all of the experts in this forum... I live in the north of Italy and the weather here is very hot at the moment. I have my bees close to my house and so I enjoy watching them several times a day. Over the last week around 9 in the morning they...

    The late show

For the past couple of nights a significant number of bees has been hanging around on the landing of the hive. The evenings are warm right now (22 degrees right now in the north of Italy) but it's nearly midnight and they are still there. Any thoughts? This picture just taken... Thanks

Weeks and weeks of zero brood. Them suddenly brood appeared with zero eggs in each cell. Eggs on the side of the cells and still no sight of the Queen

Ok thanks for the quick reply. So does that mean that the Queen cells are likely to be duds as well? They were in the top box where the queenless colony was. Should I try and insert a new purchased queen or will they likely kill her too?
