Milwaukee M12SI-0 M12SI-0X Cordless Soldering Iron 12V Expensive make etc but just needs a pan adding and no need to lug a car battery about Then again as I nearly set fire to my hive useing a cheep oa sublimater from eBay it might not be that expensive and something I might look into further

    Oxalic sublimation idea...

3 observations 1)vape pipes use a liquid to carry a minute amount of flavouring over or around a heating element certainly less than 2g 2) all vape pipes require you to suck air through the chamber to get vaporised gases were you want them. .. not sure I fancy sucking on OA 3) look up dewalt...

    Wasp overrun & Absondment

She was a VQ last September. And I split her hive 3 ways in may I think as thought they were trying to supersede her, I was worried she wasn’t very productive and I was concerns about chalk brood and cbpv , I now believe following info from this forum that the cells were probebly swam, so more...

    Robbing for how long

Yesterday morning I gave a nuc in front garden some syrup , By lunchtime it was being robbed mercilessly by bees from a hive in the back garden, Despite heavy rain it was dark befor robbers all when home and I was able to move nuc to another location around the side of the house (it’s a big...

    Wasp overrun & Absondment

I think you are correct. I originally kept her back as Inshurance in case her daughters didn’t make it but 1 seams ok . It’s all a learning curve. … it would be easiest to unite now with no brood, but I am intregued to see how well the queen lays / develops frames of brood over the next...

    Does anyone know where?

I did say I was going to tidy up the sheds today but when I looked at them I decided It would be easier to extract without the said wingnuts. I did check the 1ld jar of honey in the cupboard seamed as likely a place as any to have put them but no luck I did realise they are the same size as...

    Wasp overrun & Absondment

Well the 1:1 may have been a mistake or I overdid the dribble onto the frames and it’s run out the floor . anyway I appear to have initiated a robbing frenzy. Closed it up completely and put some wet frames from extracting on the other side of yard which appears to have created enough of a...

    Wasp overrun & Absondment

Thanks for the replies. As frames were dry I have given them some 1:1 a Pattie and an , apiagaurd treatment I have closed the entrance down to a couple of bee slots. When wether improves I will see where they are at In all respects it will be a good test of the queen who has been in doubt...

    Frame swapping

I have one brood frame packed both sides with honey, it’s been in at least 3 hives /nucs and yesterday I moved it from an 8 frame with plenty of stores to a 6 that is light. If this lot don’t use it given the forecast I will have to seriously think about why. building up from one hive unless...

Hanging onto old Queen as backup

i take your point but op was asking about keeping a queen in a cage. Right or wrong I have made the assumption they are desperately short of equipment . Most have at least a floor ,bb, crown and a roof. So putting crown under the super with queen and some bees above would work as a temp...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Took a super off a hive that befor my hols had 2 on, and I was optimistic it was going into a 3rd, Rescued a swarm found on the ground with clipped queen . I believe they absconded from my wbc hive due to robbing or wasps . Gave a nuc a frame of stores from an 8 frame hive and replaced...

    Wasp overrun & Absondment

For clarity I have put them in a bs polly 6 frame nuc .I just used the brood box in picture to gather them up. I could cut up and fit some king-span to reduce the size of the nuc if that the best advice and will help them build up before winter../ get them through I don’t have any Colonies I...

Hanging onto old Queen as backup

I assume that if op was short of a brood box then a super would do and a comb of brood cut down to fit.

Arrived home from holls 3am checked hives 7am one previously week hive with a questionable queen completely empty all. Comb dry but lots of wasps present. 2.45pm discovers queen and pile of bees in middle of yard. Placed in nuc with some honey drizzled onto previously dry comb and put a Patti...
