    Air source heat pumps

Air course would work well with your underfloor but they use a lot of electricity so you need to offset that with solar. If people think they can save money they will probably be disappointed they will however massively reduce their carbon footprint and can take the moral high ground...

To treat or not to treat...

No not wrong a sugar wash may only release about 50% of mites from the bees if you give them a general role [notshake]. So double the count to give you an accurate reflection of load. The real question is how much this load has reduced after treatment

Move them in one go at night put leafy branch in front of entrance so any bees that have oriented to current position will reorientate to new position. Any bees that don’t will hang around old position for a while before going off to find the nearest hive they can to beg into Caveat!! Just...

a small swarm has arrived - leave them to move in, or assist?

Personal experiance is that if you can dump the majority of the cluster ergo the queen in a nuc with a frame or more of comb they will stick add other frames of stores as you would a split

    Under 3 feet/over 3 miles

Your bumblebee would be happier making her nest in an old blue tits nest. I found one when I tried to clean out an extractor vent after the blue tits had moved on. Explains why I was always accompanied by Humbel bees when I went to use the downstairs wc

    'Renting' beehives. How much?

The most generous offer I would make would be to look after bees and keep all produce, then donate back xx% of any profits any losses carried forward to next year

    Phosphate credits

I would be inclined to grab the deal whilst you can . Government plans to shake up / speed up planning are likely to remove the restrictions on developments by allowing credits to be bought from improved infrastructure / treatment plants that are proposed sometime in the future,. As with...

Could be time to break out the shorts...

Be careful with whiskey . This is the result of an impromptu trip to the “lake in the woods” last night. Brought on by the mild weather, & the lure of a campfire. 3 like minds all brought a bottle including a raspberry infused one and a blackberry infused one.

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Insulated a wooden hive and a poly nuc with the left over bits…. Can’t help wondering if we assume that plenty of keepers have been successfully with plain wooden boxes for years then the enthusiasm for insulating hives is an undercover sales pitch by poly hive manufacturers?
