    Unrolled Demaree conundrum

Background Carried out a Demaree a while back (beginning of May). Queen (2018) slowed down laying so decided to introduce newly raised Queen last week, proven layer. Old Queen to nucleus as insurance. Moved top BB which was already quite full of stores to above QE (immediately above the bottom...

What do you want from the forum ?

Admin I am not sure on what basis PH is making this claim, but accusing someone of being a a good friend of a paedophile and all that entails frankly is something that deserves a lifetime ban. I don't know and don't care what history or background accusations are behind this. Please take...

    Swarm control, "mini nuc method"

Out of interest HM, if putting the original queen back do you just run her in or use a cage? Sent from my BTV-W09 using Tapatalk

    Interesting article

See bee history not suggesting it’s the best article ever but interesting, no doubt some will be along to correct some of the ‘facts’ in due course. I like the prospect for a new product for selling, I imagine of great interest to those particularly keen on a return on their investment “Such...

    Modified Snelgrove II, reunite

Thanks both You’re right I could have 3 BB but am assuming the relocated colony will reduce as they wait for the new Q to be produced and laying so should be able to get them in two boxes. I was wondering about reuniting one BB (minus any Q cells) as soon as the original Q looks good to boost...

    Modified Snelgrove II, reunite

Hi A couple of questions for those who used this a few times. I’m half way though my first, having split last week, separate sites not vertical, and about to move the queen back to the original site. Hive was on double brood and fairly strong two supers filling and about 16 frames of brood, so...

    EFB in North Leeds

Hi It appears the EFB is in Yeadon, which is within SE24, and indeed a bigger place than Pool, but the allocated name for the square is Pool. Simon

Whos not been in yet ?

Just been in today, glad I did. Basically all well in all 4 hives, especially double brood poly (10 + frames of brood), the problem (if it's a problem) was lack of space for laying. Actually removed stores and replaced with drawn comb. And that's near Leeds where this is the first day where...

    Landing Board

Of course they don't need a landing board, but like many I like watching the bees on their way in. They don't need to give me honey either, but they do! Just plane a piece of 32mm timber (to give a slope so water runs off), three screws (waits for obvious comments), job done, £7.00 saved. Simon

Which to plant - sycamore or horse chestnut

It would be interesting if the OP could explain why these are the only options. Curious as to why these two species. Simon

    Maisemore bees-online delayed delivery?

I buy supplies for our local association shop. All the UK suppliers I've dealt with are inundated with orders. We've sold more woodwork and foundation so far this year than all of last year. Certainly means a good year for the bees. Get your order in early is all I can suggest. Simon

    Moving frames of brood

Michael Palmer talks about boosting colonies by taking brood and bees from nuclei in a really interesting article in the latest BBKA news. What he doesn't do is explain how he avoids fighting, or if indeed he doesn't try to avoid it. Michael, if you're reading this, would you be kind enough...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Checked four hives, all doing well. Best one which I put on double brood (deeps) last week gave today's beekeeping lesson. When you put a brood box (deep) on check all the frames are deep too, not just the outside ones! Nicely drawn shallow frames is where HM decided to lay. Fortunately saw her...
