    Label gun

I use the same. No complaints. Mine was from www.thepricegunshop.co.uk who were very helpful with finding a suitable gun for what I wanted.

    Apisolis Instead of smoke

I have a apisolis. I have never used a traditional smoker so I've got nothing to compare it to. It does however do the job I'd expect a smoker would. My bees are very well natured so I barely use it. A few puffs though and the bees are moving away from where I vape. Generally down into the box...

    Asian Hornets Essex

The temperature in Essex has rapidly dropped in the last few days. Hopefully will cause problems for any invasive visitors.

    Drone brood

It was about 6 days ago. It wasn't a full check, just pulled a few frames. The drone brood was along the bottom of the frame and not scattered. Didn't see the queen but the eggs that I did see were typically of a queen and not a laying worker. I'll go back in when I'm off work in a few days...

    Drone brood

Quick question (s), At what point of the year do bees stop producing drones? I understand that now that the season is coming to an end, the drones get kicked out. On my last inspection there was still drone brood being produced. Is this something to worry about? The weather is still pretty...

    Honey Jar Labels ???

Having used this service I can highly recommend it. Customer service was fantastic and I've been flooded with positive comments on the design and presentation of my label. On my little Instagram I've had a fair few comments asking me where i got them. Not sure how to upload a pic but if anyone...

    Removing Supers advice.

I think I've been very lucky and must be surrounded by a variety of rich forage. I'm semi urban/rural. Bees started on OSR which I think gave them plenty of early resources to build comb and expand. Then lots of bramble and clover and all the other wonders that people have in their gardens. I...

    Removing Supers advice.

I made boards based on these by adapting parts that I had. They worked perfectly. Only a few bees were left in the boxes a day after putting them on.

    Queen cages

I had one that was really difficult. I had to essentially cut it using the hive tool as it wouldn't snap. The majority I've had to use have been find though.

When is a pack of two a pair?

I think calling it a pack of two is misleading as it makes it appear more than what it is. Who would buy a pack of one? It's language being used to confuse the buyer in my opinion. It should simply be called a pair of gloves as that's what it is and I'm sure what the large majority would know...

    Savage chickens

I've watched my chickens swallow a mouse whole. They are in a large closed off enclosure so no birds can get in. I've read that once an injury starts (with blood seen) it draws out the pecking instinct in them and they'll peck and peck until there's not much left.

Abelo 6 Frame poly nuc entrance and mice

Regarding the entrance for this hive which on it's smallest setting has an opening of 9mm (h) by 50mm (w). This is my first year into beekeeping and where I'm currently at I'll have 3 of these nucs going into winter. I'm thinking the above entrance will not prevent a mouse from entering during...
