    Insurance for smallholdings?

Any suggestions on insurance for smallholdings please? I'm looking for a new provider. NFU Mutual has hiked up my premium by 40%. I've been with them for 25 years with no claims.

Mine at home (Conwy Valley) have done a bit on the heather. Now, they are busy on the Himalayan Balsam, despite the best efforts of the local balsam bashers.

    Books for beginners

Green Guide is a good introduction. The late Pam Gregory was a former Regional Bee Inspector for Wales, much-missed.

Linen scrim for pressing heather honey?

Can anyone recommend any non-beekeeping suppliers of low cost lightweight open weave linen scrim approx 1 metre square with hemmed edges, suitable for use in a heather honey press please? Linen scrim is usually used for window cleaning. The weight varies and some is too heavy for honey.

    Heather predictions this year

The ling heather honey has started to flow today in the Conwy Valley, north Wales. 8pm and my hives at home are roaring. A few more warm days and we should get a crop. Pic shows ling on Conwy Mountain last week.

    Off to the Heather

A walk in the heather on Conwy Mountain yesterday. Plenty of heather in flower, some honeybees working. I'm still hoping for heather honey.

    Jars and Buckets

I prefer the metal handles. A 30 pound bucket of honey on the floor makes a right mess.

    RIP Wynne Jones

Wynne Jones died on Friday 23rd June, peacefully at home. He was a good friend of beekeepers far and wide. The attached picture shows Wynne (sitting down) and his wife Rhiannon at the Conwy Honey Fair many years ago. His business C. Wynne Jones is run by his family.

Greetings from the land of Dragons

There is plenty of support for new beekeepers here in North Wales. Blundering through is not an option. Beekeeping teaches you a whole new set of skills, and it's a lifetime commitment for most of us. Good that you are getting local bees. See Front Page - Welsh Beekeepers Association for...

    Which honey extractor?

We run a popular Honey Extractor Kit hire scheme for members of Conwy Beekeepers. We're having a great spring honey harvest. Which 4-frame honey extractor would you recommend to improver beekeepers now wanting to buy their first extractor, instead of hiring our equipment? Thanks.

What's flowering as forage in your area

    Heather predictions this year

We had good heather honey here in the Carneddau mountains, North Wales in 2021 and 2022. Hoping for another good year. Sycamore is yielding well in the Conwy Valley and plenty of swarms reported. We're always optimistic! Some of my hives still have heather stores from last year.

Relocating 5 hours from current location.

Good luck with your move to Wales. You'll love it here. Suggest you get the bees inspected by the Seasonal Bee Inspector after the bees have settled in.

Sunday 30th April, Bodnant Honey Market.

Thanks Dani. The event should appeal to honey lovers who are unable to attend the Conwy Fairs, which are always held on weekdays.
