Poly Hives - State of play

Could we do a sticky with full pros and cons of each polyhive type? A little like ITMA's nice write up earlier in the tread on the pros & cons with Paynes national polys but with the other makes as well.

Bee base. I can't believe it

Fair enough but are their bees just surviving then? Do they actually take any honey off their hives I wonder or are they purely just surviving and being used for research?

Bee base. I can't believe it

But if almost all those hive thrived in spring wouldn't that mean it can't be too detrimental?

Bee base. I can't believe it

Well because they can calculate its trajectory so well that they can land a spacecraft on it from a huge distance which means they can calculate the effect of the impact on its future trajectory. A truly remarkable achievement, which if you think about it, means they are a lot better at...

Is this finally end of Varroa mite?

The data looks weak to me as dose response is not convincing. Also this oleic acid is the same class of acid as formic and oxalic acid so I would liked to see one of these used as a control as well, to show it is not simply a acid effect on the varroa. Also I am struggling to see a practical...

    Survey for causes of CCD

Is this an A level Extended essay project? If so I would suggest you think about whether you can modify your essay title or do some more research on CCD first because (as mentioned above) you would be better going to an American forum.

    This might sound silly but

No evidence of curing cancer there. Simply shows cannabis compounds are toxic to tumors and non-tumor cells which is not surprising. No specific effects on tumor cells so will not likely even get to first phase clinical studies.

Show me the peer reviewed data then that shows 'it cures cancer'.

    This might sound silly but

I will watch when a serious peer reviewed journal publishes it. Until then will not waste my time. Oh and by the way I worked in two world class cancer research centres for many years so don't need educating by your trash.

    This might sound silly but

Cures cancer; Really all the different cancers all with different molecular basis. Well that will save the NHS billions just there simples; they just need to listen to IG and find his source of info and the jobs a good one.

    Red Wine

I'm confused. Could you explain please. I have just read that its is a ratio of densities. Is that why specific gravity is not considered a measurement? Surely we can measure density in g/cm3 ( but this would be far less accurate if you are not going to use large volumes to do the...

    does anyone keep aggressive bees

I am surprised at peoples patience with Irishguy. He just simply does not seem to listen (or at least listen properly and process the info).

    Feral colony in tree

Thanks for suggestions which I will discuss with the ranger. What time of year would be best to attempt a 'rescue'? I would be tempted to say winter as they are least active but would disturb the cluster and may become too cold.
