    Treating stings

Got me just at top of nose last summer, I wouldn't have needed a costume for a fancy dress that's for sure, didn't think of it at the time but I could have robbed the bank and got away with it. Got my neck last week didn't swell much at all strangely, Ankle seems to be a bad place for swelling...

    Mad Mad..

still waiting here, although they are very active, I keep putting the bottom board back in if it looks like a cold night. Also had to spend on some pond plants I had a rather empty pond and they insisted on trying to drown themselves on the warm days the wet compost trays seemed to have slowed...

few questions as I plan for spring

Sounds like doubles is favourable, I guess I could get another brood and make the national a double as one of this years jobs. And if all went to plan and I can increase I could use the super that was brood on the deep if needed. I'm going to make a couple of nucs up ready perhaps I could use...

few questions as I plan for spring

The main hive is currently 1 and 1/2 but it was not knowing that led to this it is a bit of a pain for inspections which is why I bought the deep hive as I thought this would be better. I'm thinking if I did a split I could put the original hive back to one brood box or perhaps add another brood...

few questions as I plan for spring

Thank you for the reply, that gives me something to go by. Took the excluder out, didn't want her left behind although I think they will still be safely in the middle for a split would you say a 5/6 frame nuc? or use another standard national brood box with the 11frames? Trying to get all the...

few questions as I plan for spring

Hello all Well my colony that found me as a prime swarm seem to be doing well. they are in a standard brood although I let them use the second super as brood if they wished as it seems a very strong colony. and I was kind and left them with two supers one was full of capped honey at the time...

    Drones galore today

was certainly too early for the drink, 100% drones either that or i don't just have bees in the hive. Just rather odd to be so many, I expected to see a few but not this many. I thought it was supposed to be a known thing that the drones get turfed out?

    Drones galore today

Looks like the bees were also wondering if frosts were on the way with such a clear night, however with a warm day it looks like all the drones have been given the boot today. I imagine they are now banished from the hive I believe this is what happens before the colony heads for winter. However...

    feeding

I wonder is it a positioning thing, perhaps warmer places or maybe if the warm way or cold way. So the overall is there is only need for the bb and one super over winter? even if I let them go brood and half during the summer although they never used it as a half. So this evening il have one...

    feeding

I cant take the credit for the painting, only the white haha. Few more issues, The hive is brood box, super, excluder, super,cb,super housing feeder brood box then I allowed them to have a super as extra brood space, and because they didn't want to go through the excluder. I added the next...

    feeding

hi thank you for the replies Yes thats the one in question, if its like you say then perhaps best I get the other one. should I stop feeding soon? I don't want to over feed but these are in a national 1 brood and they have a super too, they did have a couple of empties each side in the super...

    feeding

Hi all I know I should be able to find a previous question re feeding, however I have decided perhaps I should start feeding regardless of that I haven't taken any honey but I'd like to get some food in for them. So I started a few days ago and they cleared a four pint rapid feeder in a day...

How quick could a super of honey be consumed?

To be honest I only lifted the top yesterday as weather was bit iffy, everyone was at home. So I hadn't checked the brood box recently. But I will do when the sun returns. Just don't want them to get hungry, always a lot of activity as soon as it does dry up

How quick could a super of honey be consumed?

Hi all newbie question Just looked in hive I tend to leave them well alone, they had filled the super above brood box with honey 90% I had put QE above this in case they needed more than the national brood box. I then put another super on a month ago above the qe which they've not yet touched...

is she that bad? I must admit the one hive i have that's going well are very friendly. and this swarm that appears to be queenless are a bit more feisty so I can't imagine they could be much worse. on the other side they mite want to be fierce for the waspies
