    Defective Gas Vap Burner

A bad workman blames his tools.... Higher cost options are available!!! My car isn't as comfortable as a Bently, but it was a tad cheaper I have a gas vap and it works for me, it is better than lugging a car battery around the hives, but not as good as some of the newer ones with portable tool...

    Randy Oliver OA sponges

I didn't use sponges in the spring. Not having used them, they couldn't have been left in until September, just over the brood nest, nor could the bees have chewed them to bits.

Swarms not as plentiful this year

Fed up with calls to collect swarms. Picked up a cast this evening, it is now on top of another nuc with a swarm in it on a pallet with three other swarms. Dug one out of a bathroom yesterday, and also collected another whilst I dodged two other calls.... I trimmed my colonies back earlier this...

Heated it up and shook for a few days then tried to filter it. was...

    Gasvap Modifications

The charts presented in the article seem to show that 4g is better than 2g if reducing mite levels is your objective..... Yet to see any evidence that higher dose (sublimation) is bad for bees. Interestingly Api-Bioxal is recommended in the article as a once a year treatment (at 2.25g) when...

    Gasvap Modifications

Depends what you measure JBM 5% increase in efficacy if you measure 98.2% vs 93.1% If you measure mite mortality by the number of mites left alive...one had 10.3% and the other 5.8%, that is 77% more mites left behind with the lower dose. The trials were conducted in the field, not in the lab.

    Gasvap Modifications

Clearly you take the view that I am wrong in my position on dosage, and are entitled to that view. I don't think however that you are entitled to attack my position on the basis of pseudoscience without presenting your scientific evidence for your position. I think that you will find that the...

@pargyle Can I refer you to Al Toufailia, Hasan (2016) Integrated control of honey bee diseases in apiculture. Doctoral thesis (PhD), University of Sussex. http://sro.sussex.ac.uk/id/eprint/62056/ "The sublimation method used pure OA. We...

    Gasvap Modifications

Nothing slapdash about it. It is a researched position. No downside to giving the bees too much, apart from the cost. I bought 2.5kg for just over £20, call it £25 for simplicity, so 2500p bought 2500g which works out at roughly a penny a gram. The extra 4g costs me 4p, but by the time I have...
