    Alton location?

I have a colleague who is very interested in letting a beekeeper put a couple of hives at the end of her garden. Location backs onto fields, and is quite a large garden. I would use the site but it is too far from me to be of any use, is there anyone here interested? Would suit an Beek with...

How do bees naturally arrange themselves?

Not going to comment on your situation as I just don't know what's gone on! Bees store honey above the brood nest. They make comb from the top down. And the brood nest moves down as the space above them fills up with honey. I think this is what you are asking?! Sorry if it isn't!

    Uniting with MAQs

Bad idea. But you know that already don't you :) As an aside, the queenless one's brood break will help control varroa. What's the varroa count on the queen right hive? Ie why are you treating? Why maqs? I would always do one step at a time personally, but which step depends on the whys!

    First inspection with bare hands

I used to go bare hands, but went back to surgical gloves, for a couple of reasons. Propolis is a bugger to get off your hands. With a fresh pair of gloves for each hive you avoid transferring any diseases. Surgical gloves are so thin you can still feel everything.

    Queenless....

Swarmed. They can raise queens off 3 day old eggs, so can complete a swarm in 6 days if they feel the need to rush. If for example, their last attempt was thwarted!

Rocovering from losing an early swarm ?

No swarm control at all? Or do you stop cast swarms by knocking down cells?

    Beekeeping records ipad/iPhone app

Use Forms by Device Magic. It's a free app, and you can design your own form. What's very handy is the logic based forms, so certain answers make more parts of the form visible. For example, if I answer yes to 'queen seen' it'll ask me what colour mark she has, if I say not marked, it'll ask...

    Upcoming weather

I got some seaweed hanging up outside, usually a good indicator of wether it will rain or not... Trouble is, I can't go check on it because its p***ing it down, and I'll get wet. So I have no idea wether its going to rain or not now....

can I use my wife regal icing waste to feed my bees

Wasn't there a story a while ago, about bees making brightly coloured honey? It turned out they were getting on and out of the coloured syrups waste at a sweet factory...

    see bee foraging area

Just knowing the rough location isn't going to help a thief. Lets face it, there is guaranteed bee hives in every town and village. Unless the exact location is known it won't help. I could probably tell you where mine are and you would still have a job finding them!!! This is just a nifty...
