Need to move hives to get sun over winter

Doesn't look like a lot of space to be working with. Move the one on the right to the flower pot position in one move Then move the Ieft hand hive in stages, creeping it over the space of a week to where the right hand hive currently is. Job done. But still looks very snug!

Wasp experts needed - strange behaviour!

Karol you are a legend. Thanks for bringing the knowledge! I was wondering if there was something willow specific, but didn't know where to start!

Wasp experts needed - strange behaviour!

I did give the tree a good rub, it wasn't sticky at all, I expected sap or resin. But couldn't feel any... You know that sticky feeling you get when you handle a nordman fir?

Wasp experts needed - strange behaviour!

I am hoping that Karol will respond to this, but rather than a DM thought it a good chance for the rest of us to learn something. I went to a friends house to see if he had a wasp nest, based on reports of a ton of wasps on a tree. Turned up, definitely no nest the tree is too small to hide...

    So many wasps!

Thankfully none at my apiaries yet, but I have never seen so many around. They are decimating the greenfly on my plum tree, which is a good thing - but I can't help thinking how long before they want carbs instead of protien... Is this the year of the wasp? And are we ready to batten down the...

    Sinister !

BrianO no problem, apology accepted. I get you were looking for somewhere to vent and get solidarity, alternative views don't help when your angry. My apologies to if I seemed to be trying to provoke, that wasn't my intention. If it's any consolation, the idea of sharing an apiary with...

    Sinister !

Your bees are angry when opened. You have a note left for you saying don't open... They haven't been stolen or interfered with? And they are in a public apiary... I think you may need to investigate rather than over react. Or find your own apiary!

Could the internet of things hold the key to saving the honeybee from annihilation?

Finny quoting Sharknado. Finman wins the internet, turn it off, and everyone go home. It's never getting any better than this. :)

Could the internet of things hold the key to saving the honeybee from annihilation?

Yep, it always amazes me that the yanks haven't figured out - they are the only country with a big CCD problem, and also the only country with their unique farming practices.... Occam's razor should be applied!

    Poly hives

I have picked up some new poly hives, 2x double brood and plenty of supers. I intended to move two of my colonies into them this weekend. After painting and stacking them, I notice there is a one mm gap all the way round on all of them (except the corner pillars). After phoning the store they...

    angry bees - robbing

You can leave the entrances wide open and easy targets. Or close them right down to a single bee space making it easy to defend and not worth the effort to robbers. Which one do you think will work?

    Wild find

I watched a swarm arrive on the tower of Portchester castle about 3 weeks ago. Far too high to collect, they have settled inside and are now a 'wild' colony. I get to see them every Saturday on my morning run, they are very busy. Wish they were in my hives instead!
