    Swarm traps/lures. Worthwhile?

You are probably right to sit on the fence, after all, as nobody has PROVED that fairies don't exist, means that they could exist... And there is always some nice chap who can give a plausible, yet totally un provable theory to help thwart those nasty skeptic who want evidence! Still, it...

    New book,by John Harding.

Love the bit on Ley Lines and vibrations. Complete nonsense, but whatever floats your boat.

    Winter Jasmine

I think the main pollinator of jasmine are these cute little black beetles. Have a look inside the flowers, you will spot them quite quickly.

    Honey Allergy?

I really have strong doubts about the honey allergy anecdotes. What is it they are allergic to? Sucrose? Fructose? Glucose? I.e basic sugars? Or the minuscule amounts of pollen? As a hay fever sufferer, if that amount of pollen gives you 'a reaction' come the summer you would be in intensive...

    Honey Allergy?

Go and see your doctor. Do not take health advice from a forum or tinternet. Also reacting to stings (a toxin) can not have any correlation to eating honey. (Not a toxin).

    Foundation in Super frames.

Waxmoth don't bother foundation. I have used 12 month old frames with foundation in, and they were fine. I would expect the bees to chew it out if they don't like it... Best tip on here so far was give it a warm up before you use it. Very quick waft of a blowtorch .

    Re-housing wild colony now

Couldn't you have replaced the compost bin lid with a brood box (no floor) and the salvaged comb in frames in that and let the bees move themselves up overnight? Increases your chances of the queen being saved...

Wild bees in gables and construction work about to commence - how do I protect the builders?

Nice to see Rugbee trolling again... As long as you warned the builders, I don't see a problem. Get them to put a scaffold net divide in between them and the bees.

    False widow spider in hive

I once found half a tarantula in a bunch of bananas... Scared the living wotsits out of the missus, as she only saw a couple of legs before screaming! Me being very brave of course, investigated using a pair of chopsticks. I was greatly relieved to find it was obviously dead.

    Wasps

Figured as much for maintaining a varroa population, especially with a prolonged brood break, and no winter wasps. I guess I am thinking along the lines of if a wasp colony robs a smaller bee colony heavily there is an opportunity for the wasps to also bring back varroa... Would it doom a wasp...

    Wasps

Ordered a WaspBane trap, time to give the blighters some! Already destroyed one nest locally... Grumble grumble. Question though: do varroa effect wasps at all? Can wasps transport varroa?

    Wasps

Bloody things, popped to the apiary the see my girls, mainly to see pollen going in. In one hive I saw three wasps get in. They did not make it out though so hoping they met a grizzly fate. Reduced the entrance to once space. Can we have a frost please?

    Just got stung...

Ouch, well you are still responding to posts, so you must still be breathing. That's good news. Bad news is you might need to learn the banjo...

    Just got stung...

In the throat? Or on the throat? You are supposed to eat the honey not the bees....

Weight of hive to estimate stores

I weighed mine with a digital scale, both complete hives (brood and a half - half being stores fed back). Both weighed just over 29kilos. This was complete hive suspended, not hefted. As it was 18 degrees I did a last check to see what stores they were carrying, and there was quite a bit, but I...

    Do bees bite

Re: fighting wasps, Bees can sting wasps many times as well as bite. This doesn't kill them as the barb sting damages the wasp and doesn't get stuck. It only sticks when it pierces tough leathery skin like ours. So in a wasp fight they are actually at least equal.

    asett

It's a bit dull without him... I met a couple from Finland last week whilst tending my apiary, they said they doubted bees produced much honey in Finland, and I was able to correct them thanks to Finny. I read that he often takes a 'sabbatical' from the forum and then returns... How long does...
