    hive naming/numbering convention

I am thinking that it is the Queen that should have the number rather than the hive/ brood box. Because when you move a hive or take out a queen in to a nuc or whatnot then it's easier to keep track of who is who. Pin a number on to the box she is in so that it can be moved with her. New Q's...

    Accidentally damaged supercedure cell

How do you know it's a supercedure and not the first swarm cell?? I would definately open it up next week.

    hive full up with brood

I don't think you'll lose a cast. They wont swarm unless there is a QC in the hive. Standard practice in this situation is to release a couple of Q's and remove any other QCs. They will fight it out untill there is only one Q to head the colony. Well done!

    Virgin Queen tincture

No, never tried it. It sounds feasible though. Bees are V. sensitive to smells. Esp. the Q substance. I don't think virgins have a strong smell though. Ie. When hiving a cast it takes the bees a bit longer to find her.

Aggressive Hive - Running Out of Options

The clue should be in the name. Bee "Keepers"! Surely not Bee "Killers"!

    antlew

Put a scarecrow next to them with a bit of flappy stuf near the head. The bees go for it all the time and then get fed up with no reaction. Then when you go in you they don't attack you? Heard of it , never tried it.

    poorly colony -Nosema?

As far as I know it's not possible to buy fumidil anymore. What other treatments are there? And has anyone any experience using them?

    poorly colony -Nosema?

I don't really know! It is the association apiary. I've just taken over management of it last week! The old manager came today and I told him they wouldn't take down the syrup "Fumidil?" he said. So I took a sample and have just come away from the microscope just now and I thought of this...

Collapsed colony - what should I do

Adding more bees/brood may just be delaying the inevitable. Though you can treat with fumidil for nosema-- you can fumigate hive with acetic acid. But it wont kill spores in sealed stores. Chuck the lot away and scorch the hive? Though boiling the frames would be ok too. Nosema has been a very...

    poorly colony -Nosema?

Have you tested for nosema yet? It does sound like it to me. Often if you try to feed syrup they can not take it down. Also squits is a sure sign of infection. I have a strong colony that I've been trying to feed with syrup for 2 weeks now but they refuse to take it. I tested for nosema today...

Collapsed colony - what should I do

Sounds like nosema to me as well. "Starvation in the midst of plenty"

does most people on here use Fumidil B?

I reckon you'r probably right but like I say, another week on syrup then test again. I will use fumadil , reluctantly , because I have had problems with nosema for a couple of years now. The bee inspector did a proper lab test on them last year and when I got the results I had both apis AND...

does most people on here use Fumidil B?

Is thymolated syrup not a treatment for nosema then? Or is it just understood to keep it at bay or has it, indeed, got no effect whatsoever?

does most people on here use Fumidil B?

I was hoping not to use fumidil,Just thymolated syrup. I have been giving them a jar of thin syrup every 2 or 3 days and will test again next week to see if there's any improvement. If not then it's fumidil, unfortunately.

does most people on here use Fumidil B?

Tested my bees for nosema the other day and one was teeming with nosema spores. I would like to think that feeding with thymolated syrup would get them through the winter, but having just finished apiguard , when the whole hive has been steeped in thymol, I dont think this is very realistic...

    asking help

Hi Hicham. Did you use a grafting tool to move 1 day old grubs, in to what? It is possible to make Queen cell cups by dipping a round ended stick in to melted bees wax a few times to get it thick enough. They can then be glued on to a frame with more melted wax. If a grub is then grafted...

    Crownboards and roofs

When you want to inspect your brood box you put the supers on the upturned roof with the crownboard on,it keeps the bees in the super calmer than if the supers were open to the sky.

    Deformed Wings?

Yes a swarm can be treated with OA. Hive them and then treat as you usually would.
