    Help on OSR please.

Just to say that i reckon your right in your timing, but, this spring we had a lot of cold nights,, exactly the same here in North brittany. in my hives, the crystallisation was all int he extremities if the frames. none where the cluster was there permanently. I say crystallisation will happen...

Using queen cells on day 3 after grafting.

so, i am asking this question as my colleague tells me its becoming popular by some queen and nuc rearers in France. i would be really interested to hear what everyone thinks. to me it has merit. Firstly, you insert a started cell in to a queen less colony, in this case it would be a recently...

How quickly can bees fill a super?

Swarms are a different beast altogether,( as Yorkrshirebees just said) they are monster comb builders. if you have supers you want to get builtout, stick a load on and feed em tons of syrup, they just keep going. Its a lot cheaper to build out frames with syrup rather than honey. If i remember...

It was a one off and how often would it happen?. She obviously ok, not very pleasant for her, but it could be any lane in any part of the country. I hope you dont get asked to move because its a storm in a teacup really. The problem is , people who get bees in their hair just prance around...

    Finding a new apiary

:iagree: Justsmith, its you that decides where they go, you must be firm and selective and it has to work for both parties completely. Be fair and firm you cant have issues where you cant have access at certain times. B+ is bang on the mark farms are your best bet. i have 12 apiaries now, when...

    Sublimox - using an eke

Your on a good track, I've heard through a friend who been sublimating through a top cover and its more successful. I think Hivemaker (Peter Little) has done a lot of work trying this out. He might be able to shed more light on the success rate. I will be getting a Sublimox later this year and...

    Non honey bee advice needed

I've learnt the hard way, like a lot have. But, if you get any calls, always try and establish by careful interrogation, what the nest or bees actually look like. About 5 or 6 times a year i get a call saying" there is bees in my chimney". i ask how long they have been there and they say, since...

    Early Dearth?

Were having a bit of a difficult spring here, Like you we had no rain for about 6 weeks, until last week, then 40mm on to bone dry OSR )(that was only a week until its finished but still a lot of flowers), that hadn't given much for the last 3 weeks, so the few hives that had supers on, say 30%...

How long does Royal jelly last

There should be no need to contemplate that, good queen cells are born with a load royal jelly still in the top of the cell on the day of hatching. If you raise you own queens you wont need to even attempt this because your working with your bees, raising queens when your bees would do this...
