Is supermarket honey not real honey then?

My daughter is senior communications manager for Compassion in World Farming and has spent the last decade trying to get live exports banned because it’s cheaper to cart animals across Europe to slaughter than do it in the UK and send them frozen. They finally got the UK government to ban it...

    Multi Nuc Combination

I would throw the 3 Q- in a box with a Q+ one. They get on with it.

    Cleaning after wax moth.

The gardener at one of my clients is still using 7 year old DiPel and says it still seems to be working. The vineyard at another clients estate emailed me to say they we spraying DiPel on the vines asking if it was a problem for the bees. I’m sort of hoping it might kill the wax moth in the hives! 😂

    Frame runners in nucs?

But the shape of the Maisie’s wood negates the need for steel runners.

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Been to clean up this morning at 0545 before the bees were up. Most of the bees from last night had returned to their hives and the bees in the bucket were not drowned as there was only a few mm of honey in there. Did a bit of a clean up and sealed up the door where they were squeezing through...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Just been to collect some stuff from my honey room only to find that the bees from my adjacent hives seem to have found a way into it. Early tomorrow I’ll be sealing it up with gaffa tape!

What did you do in the Apiary today?

I often get them in one of my apiaries, they love to hide under the roofs as well.

How much honey, candles etc to take to a village fair

I agree, I sell to my local shop with a different size jar and different label so the punters don’t compare.

How much honey, candles etc to take to a village fair

I do the same twice a year and always sell quite a bit of honey. (30-40 jars in a 3 hr period) Unfortunately most of those sales are to my normal customers so sales from my house shelves suffer for a couple of weeks 🙂 but it’s worth it as its a great opportunity to chat to my customers.

    Apivar and OA vaping

It would if course depend on how many hives you hypothetically treated! 😂

    Apivar and OA vaping

If I was the type of beekeeper that vaped as varroa control, I’m sure this, that arrived on my doorstep would sort me out for a few years.

    Lack of wasps

Bees and wasps showing a lot of interest in the extractor fan from my honey room . 😀

    Lack of wasps

The losses were in several different apiaries so not just one nest. 🙂

    Lack of wasps

Wasps are with me in spades! I’ve lost 5 weak colonies and 3 mating nucs in the last couple of weeks. They were all over the cleared supers this morning desperate to get in at any crack. They were also in my honey room today. I never mind a few bees buzzing around but wasps in another thing!

    Settling tank advice

I would say the big difference between the two is the sieves. I’m struggling to find any 415mm food grade stainless sieves on tinternet so would assume these could be an expensive item if the had to be made to order.

God I love growing our own

Those rescues look in pretty good nick James. We have been having them for the last 15 years and some of our girls wouldn’t have looked out if place on a chiller shelf in Sainsbury’s! As others have said it’s wonderful to see them refeather and blossom in their new surroundings.

    DIY Security camera electronics

Great story 😊. Unfortunately my offender has not posted the additional cash through the letterbox but the posting on Facebook has generated at least another 4 costumers who saw that decent honey was available in the area. What is it they say about silver linings? 😁
