    Syrup “honey”

I had exactly the same conversation with a beekeeper today. He was worried that if he fed fondant he might end up with combs full of white stuff. I explained that to store the fondant they would have to process it and the only thing they can process it into is a “honey like” substance that looks...

    Air source heat pumps

I instaled my ASHP to my ex local authority semi 10 years ago and it has been as efficient and cost effective as gas. (I also have gas at the property so could have installed standard gas CH but as my company was selling renewables at the time I though I should put my money where my mouth was.)...

    Labels

My honeys are marked as the village they come from, some as close as a mile or so. I include the post code on the label to allow people see the approximate location of the hives.

    Cheap 25 kg Sugar

If a teaching apiary organised the buying and advertised the availability I’m sure it would work but what is difficult for most BKAs is dry storage!

    Labels

I use polyester labels because I sell many jars from external shelves. When I used to use paper labels they used to get damp and slugs and snails used to nibble them. Polyester is an expensive option but as you say you can warm the jars easily.

    Transporting an InstantVap

It’s PIR wrapped in foil tape. It keeps the InstantVap warm between apiaries so reduces the amount of power to get back up to temperature.

    Instantvap

    Mine does 18-20 on a 4ah.

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Ah, it’s one of my special UFE’s that I closed up to one bee space as they were under attack from wasps. I have since removed the foam to give them full access again.
