    What’s your labour rate?

As I said, I have the advantage of being paid to look after hives for clients. I should think my rate would be close to £3-4 if I just put my honey receipts in

    What’s your labour rate?

I spent yesterday sorting my 23-24 tax return and thought I would try to work out what my labour rate was based on my income versus expenditure and a guesstimate of the hours I work on my hobby. Obviously my rate is not strictly based on honey sales as I also manage bees for clients but I was...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Nice area, I tried to get the wife to move there about 15 years ago but then our first grandchild was born - no chance of getting her to move after that! :)

    Air source heat pumps

I’m sure by doing so you will avoid any nasty shocks should it fail but as I’ve already said I’ve not had my Dimplex serviced in the last 10 years but I do have a working knowledge of how it works and have rectified faults that have logged on the controls over that time. The most difficult was...

    Product & liability insurance

My new policy (including the clause about customers visiting the property) was actually cheaper than my former company. As far as insurance goes it really does pay to change regularly IMO.

    Air source heat pumps

When we were installing these systems we had to do the calculations to assess the whole house and make recommendations to the homeowner on what was the best way to claim the maximum RHI. The better overall performance the higher the payment. Any decent installer should be able to produce their...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

TBH it’s a pain to get it all out and then clean it down for a run of 150-200 jars but the actual jarring is quick, accurate and mess free. As I said on a different thread I’m tempted to import one of those cheap Chinese pumped ones to compare with my gravity fed one as I think the setting up...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Not anymore, my granddaughter got fed up. 🤣 Automatic on hex is difficult with my 3 labels/jar but the 600 go to the client unlabelled.

    Honey weighing machines

I agree, my jarring machine is Chinese via Thornes but it’s a great bit of kit and does the job well. I’m tempted to buy the pumped one straight from China to compare the use.

This was what it looked like when he did his assessment and you can see the insulation at the edges! As I said he was a w****r.

What did you do in the Apiary today?

A couple of hours work this evening. I’ve got another lot like this to do next week then 600 jars for a client before Christmas! Glad I’ve got my jarring machine.

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Just because the clocks have gone back , no need to lose sales! 😂

    Product & liability insurance

My understanding is that the BBKA PL covers all sales of hive products wherever they are sold. Your point about people coming to your door is different. I’ve just renewed my house insurance and there is a question in the form which specifically asks if people come to my house on business. My...

    Air source heat pumps

Yes the D rating was a surprise to me but I think the assessor was a bit of a w****r as he seems to have forgotten the floor insulation and the PV was added later. I wasn’t worried as I only needed to achieve a D to get RHI for installation of the heat pump.

    Air source heat pumps

My electricity use is approx 5500kwh The 120m2 semidetached house has underfloor insulation and heating on the ground floor. Blown insulation in the walls and 300mm of insulation in the loft. I have radiators on the first floor. I do have PV but of course heat pumps don’t tend to use much PV...

    Air source heat pumps

I agree with Penninetrader that does sound extremely low for a house of that size. I am surprised your getting 400% out of a house with a EPC of E. I only get 340% with an EPC of D.

    Air source heat pumps

Mine is a Dimplex LA 9 MI which is pretty basic by today’s standards but options were limited almost 11years ago. I designed the system as 5.5kw so a 9kw ASHP has no problem.
