I’m not sure exactly without looking but I would say 6/7.

Sounds like a good plan. I’ll try this.

    Bees ignoring supers

Hi, I have two national hives that seem in great health with all frames absolutely heaving with bees, brood and stores, I put a super on each with an excluder about a month ago but even though the traffic in and out of both hives is incredible, the bees are ignoring the foundation in the supers...

    Strange behaviour

Hi all, I put a large swarm into a nuc about 48 hours ago and this evening I noticed a cluster of bees in the grass about 8 ft from the nuc entrance. The bees are alive and are very much balled up. The nuc now seems very restless with bees moving around by the entrance even though it is dusk...

    Foraging question

Thanks for the answers guys, I’ll just carry on planting even if my bees turn their noses up at it!

    Foraging question

Hi all, I was wondering anyone’s bees forage on their own doorstep? Both my colonies seem to fly away across the fields and completely ignore all the lovely forage that I’ve planted in our garden about 30 meters away. I don’t mind because the other pollinators love it but I just wondered if...

    Supersedure question.

I didn’t see the queen, the colony was itself a swarm that set up in the stable about 6 weeks ago. I’m not certain that they’re queenless; I just couldn’t find any young larvae or eggs but there was some sealed worker brood.

    Supersedure question.

Hi all, this evening I removed a colony from a stable wall cavity. There was a lot of honey stored and only a limited amount of sealed worker brood but no eggs that I could see. There were 5 supersedure cells that I took intact with the brood. Is it too late in the season for a newly hatched...

    Too late for honey?

Thanks for the replies, I wasn’t expecting to get much in the first year so I’m not disappointed, my main aim was to learn all I could and to establish two hives for next year and I’m confident that I have done that. Fortunately there is an abundance of ivy around me so I’m pretty sure that...

    Too late for honey?

They had drawn out 9 frames in the brood box very rapidly so I wanted to give them more space but then they stopped. There seems to be plenty of honey in there, the outer frames are full. I’m not expecting tons of honey in the first year but just wondered if there was likely to be another flow.

    Too late for honey?

Thanks for the replies, there is a small tidal river nearby but I haven’t seen any HB along it.

    Too late for honey?

Hi all, I’m in my first year of beekeeping and I have 2 National hives that I installed swarms into at the end of June. Both have rapidly drawn comb in the brood boxes and the queens are laying well. One of the hives had filled 9 frames of brood so I added a super with foundation about 2 weeks...
