    Honey Separating in the Jar

My Spring honey from this year has done exactly that. Was worried for a bit.

    Oxalic treatment and supers

Just what I wanted to hear. Thank you.

    No Queen excluder

    Great, thank you.

    Oxalic treatment and supers

Quick question. If there is a need to treat for heavy varroa now with oxalic, for how long do you remove the supers to use vaping? Straight off, vape and wait a day or just a short period of time? Thanks

    No Queen excluder

Trying out running a colony without a queen excluder to see if it reduces the chances of swarming etc; Some questions for those that run colonies without a queen excluder; Does it end up being basically a brood-and-a-half setup as queen lays in the 1st super ? Do you wait till late in season...

    DLW - clustering

Thanks, will give it a go.

    DLW - clustering

Pretty sure. Spotty pattern, random q-cells. Clustering on a fence post near old spot, not on stand. On a related note, how can I treat the drawn comb? Just scrape off/out the drone brood etc and reuse elsewhere?

    DLW - clustering

Hi Have a colony that is a DLW one. Shook them out but are clustering. Am 99.9999% sure there is no queen and wouid prefer not to have a random cluster of bees in the apiary. Any advice on how to get them to breakup and beg into other hives? Thanks

    hive capture

Is a swarm caught now(ish) unlikely to produce a summer crop ?

    1st full inspection

So to change a queen in a hive, remove (or dispatch) old queen then just add new immediately ? Keep in introduction cage for a bit ? Will new queen not get killed off as will have different "odour" to old queen?

    Untidy buildout

Will be dispensing with the castellations then… rather annoying.

    Untidy buildout

Using castelations this year so 9 frames while I just had frames stacked together last year at 10/11 frames. Was aiming for the more content less frames option.

    Untidy buildout

Hi, Put some drawn super frames from last season on colony when flow started last week. Good news is they are filling and part capping some. Bad news is they are building out the super frames in creative ways and adding brace comb between supers etc.. I didn't get this with the new foundation...

    Last resort

I did as @Erichalfbee suggested; water over the top of frames then shook and dunked each frame into a bath of same solution. It was disturbing and disturbingly quick.

Soapy water option. frames burnt and box, floor and crownboard super scorched. Petrol somehow seemed fraught with danger.

Just pour mug of petrol into hive through crownboard hole? Would that not miss frames?

Intended on destroying the frames yes. As can’t know if virus stays with bees or in the frames.

Not something I am keen to do but a weak colony with DLQ and also cbpv needs to be dealt with. I don’t want to shake them out in the apiary so am considering euthanising the colony. I have heard water with washing detergent should be poured onto the frames, but not how much and if it suits a OMF...

frames and foundation cost up 40%

How do you control the drone cell production? Most of the foundationless frames I’ve used have come out predominantly drone sized.
