    How long in temporary site

How far is your intended site from their current location? I just moved 5 hives just under a mile away and left them locked in, each hive a different amount of time. I found that by leaving them in the shortest time, 10 hours from 8am to 6pm, there were zero returners, unless such returners...

    Earwigs

I'll leave em for now. Wasnt it Eddie Izzard who quipped that if bees create honey, earwigs make marmite....good side crop? Sent from my SM-G975F using Tapatalk

    Earwigs

Ive noticed these collecting in (currently?) small number of the roofs of 4 out of 5 hives at my new out- apiary. Anything to worry about? Sent from my SM-G975F using Tapatalk

    Flying bees returning to garden

Three hives moved 0.92 miles. One each day. Hive 1 calm hive ...closed entrance with mesh and crown board replaced with mesh. OMF Hive 2 nasty hive same as above. OMF Hive 3 Paynes NUC with just entrance clsoed with mesh. Note: no grass or twigs across entrance. Left hive 1 for 2 days...

    Flying bees returning to garden

Isnt the logic that if you give the bees enough flying time in the day then once they emerge from the new location they will: 1. Fly "out" 2. Forage duties. 3. Fly "back" There are four outcomes for "back": 1. New Location 2. Old location 3. Somewhere else 4. They perish The important fact...

    Flying bees returning to garden

PH - I am about to move 4 of my hives to a new site 0.92 miles away which is under shaded trees. Temperatures look like they will be in the 23-24C range here. I was going to take 2 hives one evening, deliver them and keep them sealed with mesh entrance cover, with OMF and full mesh crown board...

    Honey bound tangle

Ive combined two colonies but have had some issue with a drone laying queen and with manipulations and the flow I've found I have a double brood with far too much honey and nectar. Today, I've seen the lovely new BF queen I got from BS Honey Bees wiggling around and have tried to collect 4...

    Swarm time!

Beginner's view: Never too concerned about his posture (others can be more grating), I simply couldn't work out what he was saying. Short of investing in the 'Alan Turing Guide to Ozzie Internet Boarders' and the 'Tim Leary Book on Carriage Returns', the use of a "zero" character for an 'O', or...

    spotting eggs

I wear contacts for nearsightedness....I take one lens out for queen or brood/egg related inspections and hey presto.... Aye aye cap'n!

    Drone comb

I hadn't. But thought I would ask (from the back of the rookie class) if there was anything. I wanted to keep SG board until after drone emergence cos if I replaced with QX and turn this into drawn super I'd get trapped drones.. I dont have a gated waddyamathingy board ie open rather than...

    Drone comb

I had a drone laying queen. Shes been dispatched and the hive united successfully. I have some brood on a shallow (from a brood and a half configuration) which I left above a snelgrove board to nurture whatever workers I could from the box of brood (it was about 70/30 drone to worker) and will...

    Hives on owned land

Does anyone have hives on another party's land and the land owning party has the need for some sort of tenancy agreement? If so would anyone be able to send a draft template of such an agreement? I am moving some hives to a stately home site and will provide a fixed weight honey in return...

    More lessons learned

Fair enough.. regarding H2 I dont know for sure she swarmed though queen sealed QCs was strong evidence (plus the mother in law report) and H1 is "all drone" but MAY have worker eggs. But in thinking it through it may be there is no OB or eggs... In H1 if the.leaving laying queen swarmed on...
