Whatever you go for, make sure you can manoeuvre it and store it without to much trouble.

Electric Honey Extractor - 10+ Super frames

Remember, the wider the kit the greater the difficulty in storing and manoeuvring it. My bee buddy and I have a twelve -frame extractor. It has to be dismantled for storage in his garage. Whatever you get, try and see it and measure it at the widest point, usually the feet, before buying.

    Warning Signs?

In the unlikely event of someone bringing a case against you, if a honey bee stung him within a few feet of your hive, the judge would likely find it was your bee on the balance of probabilities.

    Warning Signs?

The Occupiers Liability Act requires an occupier of land to take such care as is reasonable in respect of the danger of someone on their land suffering injury, and where appropriate that care can be discharged by giving warning of the danger. A simple bee sting or three would be be so minimal...

    Beekeepers suit poll

I suspect it may not have been around in May 2020. I'm interested in it because of the design of the hood, but have read complaints that the bees can sting through it if you've only got Speedos on underneath.

"I disagree with you but won't say why, nor will I say why I believe what I do." Not a very helpful attitude. There are many of us who would like to be able to know more. Emma's clearly thought things through. Why won't she share?

What did you do in the Apiary today?

It was the old story. The brood box in one hive had sealed brood but no eggs or larvae. We'd inspected and put a super on last week. Had we somehow squashed the queen when doing so? What a shame. There's a really good flow on. Look how they're drawing out this super. Hang on a minute! What's...

    Swarming?

It's far easier to put the queen in a nuc with a couple of frames with some sealed brood on, and a couple with nectar and pollen, shake in some workers and move that away. You'll not deplete your hive and the queen will give you the making of a new colony. Watch Gwenyn Gruffydd's YouTube video...

Colony overwintered but no new brood.

You have them in a 14x12. Could you perhaps have given them too much space for them to keep warm enough for the Queen to lay? Dummy them down or, if they really are thin on the ground, transfer them to a nuc.

Emmac79, I suspect you'll already have looked at the rose hive on YouTube. If you haven't, do so. You might find Tim Rowe's method of beekeeping suits you. And yes, you'll find plenty of attacks on that in this forum.

    Rose hive error

I have always understood that there may be a residue left in the wax and that it shouldn't be reused if the honey then stored in it will be used for human consumption. Is this being over-cautious? The treatment was in the autumn. I'm not using Apivar for spring treatment.

    Rose hive error

I was given a rose hive in 2020, and worked it last year in accordance with Tim Rowe's method. But I've now realised I've caused myself a problem. I got the hive down to two boxes in the autumn and treated it with Apivar. The hive is busy and I'll shortly be needing to add a third box. But I've...

    Looking for out apiary

Land transactions are recorded at the Land Registry. Leeds became an area of compulsory registration on around 1969, that is, it became compulsory for a purchaser to register it. If a property is still in the hands of the pre-1969 owner it'll not be registered. Crown lands, church lands, local...

Are you far from Colden and the shop written about in yesterday's i? That would be a good place to sell your honey.
