What did you do in the Apiary today?

Haven't done anything in my apiary today. Leaving all that to Kaz. But the garden on the converted ouziery we're staying in, has a vine shading it. And the vine is totally full of honey bees, doing their thing. It's wonderful, just dozing to the sound of their humming, and watching them just...

    Dusty's bees.

What a curious experience! Here we are, in Athens, 04:00, far too hot to sleep - and then I come across this thread. So, having checked available flights (none), rail journeys (too slow), car hire options (far too expensive) and cost of a private jet (:icon_204-2::icon_204-2:) can I say I have...

Shrubs covered in honey bees at Lidl car park in Goole

Our cotoneaster horizontalis is covered in, literally, hundreds of honey bees. They go crazy over it - as do the bumbles. An absolute must, IMO. Dusty

    New from Bury, North Manchester

Hi Craynwrd! Welcome to the madhouse! Manchester BKA meets at their apiary at the Dower House in Heaton Park - technically in Bury, I think. We have teaching sessions every Monday evening (in the season) for people who have done the course. Or you could wander in Thursday, middle of the day...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

For the first day in about 10 days, I've not been messing with bees! But I have been sorting paperwork for the various people who are looking after my hives whilst I go on holiday. Fortunately, I have Kazmcc to look after my own hives. No anxieties there! [Except that given half a chance...

    feeder mesh

I agree with Jimy Dee. Better to buy a rapid feeder or an 'English' feeder for medium amounts of feed. If feeding a lot - say to build up winter stores - get an Ashforth or Miller feeder, if you can afford the outlay. Dusty

    Swarm traps

I suppose if a hive is used, 'bait hive' works. But I use the Mann Lake contraptions; not a hive, but I still hope to trap a swarm in one. Dusty

the best veil ..... thoughts please ?

I think this probably tells us more about you than it does your bees or your equipment. Inspecting quietly and gently, no rushing, no clattering around, using a dummy board so as not to roll the bees - and the bees won't need to sting you every time. It's not in their interest to sting without...

    Ht hotter hottest

On the contrary, if we do leave, we can have our own traditional crappy weather back, instead of all this hot Mediterranean weather foisted on us. So I'll be voting to stay! Dusty
