    Bees refusing syrup

No. They have been check by the SBI who said they were sound. Not run any tests for anything though.

    Bees refusing syrup

No. I dribbled it last time I was up and it made no difference.

    Bees refusing syrup

Just got back from the main apiary. All the colonies bar one are taking the syrup down well. The last colony have not touched theirs annoyingly when I heft them I can tell that they need more stores but they just won't go up into the feeder. When I look down the feed hole I can see a circle...

What did you do in the 'workshop' today

Have just got these from eBay for the princely sum of £41. Need to drive to pick them up next weekend but should make. Nice winter project to get on with though.

    Clearest honey I've ever harvested.

So this apiary is on the edge of Hainault Forest. In the other direction mostly farmland with a bit of dairy and horse pasture the rest arable. My RBI did mention that it's a borage area so that could be it although I haven't seen any. The forest is full of Holly, Hawthorne and blackthorn...

    Clearest honey I've ever harvested.

Just jarring this year's honey. First harvest from a new site on the edge of an ancient woodland and it's the thinnest clearest honey I've ever seen! It's all summer stuff as we didn't get a spring crop with the cold May. I fed in May for two weeks when the girls were desperate but didn't...

What hive setup to use for the ivy flows?

I don't know yet. I don't have any of my own honey to spare for mead this year so will have to buy some in.

What hive setup to use for the ivy flows?

I'm about to start a batch of standard dry mead as we've finished ours off. I'm also going to do a demijohn of a winter spiced mead recipe I want to try.

What hive setup to use for the ivy flows?

Hmmm I wonder what Ivy honey mead would come out like. May have to try and collect some next year.

    Harvesting (Brentwood)

Hi Brentwood Essex? I'm in Harold Wood so can pop along and have a look if you are.

    What are they doing?

Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to paint these ones by the time they arrived. Will sort it when I transfer these to a full box next year.

    What are they doing?

These girls have been doing this for a couple of days now. Are they trying to chew through?

    Show me the honey.

Interesting how the presenter has managed 15 years of beekeeping without ever getting stung? I barely manage a month without getting tagged at least once.

    Moisture content

Just tested my harvest. Top of the settling tank was just under 20% and the bottom of the tank was just under 19%. Guess I need to get a dehumidifier now even though the girls had capped it all.

What did you do in the 'workshop' today

It's the bee equipment feeder for their multi function crownboard.

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Checked our main apiary today. United a couple of nucs and got the second tray of apiguard on everything. Pollen packs on because this apiary really seems to struggle for pollen at this time of year. Fed a small amount of 1-1 syrup to those that seemed a bit dry.

Thanks will have a look. 👍

Extractor that will take commercial deep frames.

Looking for the above. Thinking of going to all deep boxes and also end up with deep boxes full of honey after demarees. Found to my cost that they don't fit in my current extractor so will go back to the bees this winter.
