Any tips on how best to make increase AND get a honey yield?

Split the first big hive to build QC's into 4 nucs using the cells and 2/3 frames of brood and bees, add a frame of capped brood to each from your other hives (not bees). Move to another site 2-3 miles away. You will have 3 hives and 4 nucs. A/S your other 3 as required, keep one of the splits...

    Hi

Hi Jon welcome to the forum and beekeeping. You are about 20 miles up the road from me so may catch up at some point. Good Luck. My local association has a beekeeping car boot sale on 1/5/16, you and anyone else would be welcome. www.wnklba.co.uk and have a look at events.

    Moving hives

Hi Charlie, you will be fine with the mesh floor, just block them in, strap and shift nice and gently. When you get them to the out apiary put them in place and give them ten minutes to settle down before opening the entrance. This will stop them rushing out on mass and getting disorientated...

    Normal bee behaviour?

Hi Beejuice and welcome to the world of beekeeping now that you have some. As others have said its all normal behaviour. One thing that quite surprised me though was that you just got them. Its been too cold over here to do any inspections and despite me having over wintered nucs ordered I...

Fields of OSR coming in to flower

Yes indeed, in fact North Norfolk had less, (I am in West Norfolk), mid Norfolk had more and East Norfolk was very poor according to reviews. Year on year I was almost the same due to a summer harvest that went on and on. 2014 is my best year to date overall. Last year my home apiary was...

    Bfa agm

My first BFA AGM and I thought it was ok. Agree membership should be opened up to those who 'farm' bees but may not own them.

    Beetradex

Good day I thought. Went in early, got some stuff, went to the Bee farmers AGM and then back in the trade hall for 2nds. Big hall, well attended I thought, more traders and punters than the last 2 years I thought.

    Trade Shows ?

If its just trade stands you want go to Tradex in early March. £5 to get in (less if in advance, or free to BFA members), compared to £20-26 at BBKA convetion. More European traders, in fact more traders than BBKA convention. Earlier in the season so suits me as things normally start ramping up...

    Delayed winter treatment ?

Thanks.............I think for all the advice ref my original question. The hives were all treated with apiguard at the end of August. The demo and kit distribution day has been postponed to Jan 9th. The situation including monitoring drop will be reviewed prior to the day. Thanks again.
